Radisson Blu Hotel is good. Short taxi from the train station and centrally located in a great section of Basel with great restaurants and bars nearby. Room was clean, modern, and tight. Bar was decent and breakfast was good. Hotel staff were on the ball.

The Radisson Blu is clearly aimed at businessmen who check in and out, without expecting much more than a clean room and a comfortable bed. The interior of the rooms are tasteful and simple, however there are no surfaces, other than the smallish luggage racks, to open you bags on. The inner rooms look onto a sad and ugly courtyard, almost soviet era in its utter lack of charm. The hallways are painted dark colors and for some reason half of the lights are off, with no windows at all, it makes them feel like caves you walk through to find your room. On Saturday nights, the noise from the neighboring clubs goes on pretty much all night, so don't expect to get any sleep. They did offer to move us when we called at 1AM, but we would have had to leave our things in the first room, something most travelers would not feel comfortable with. Although it came with recommendations from locals, Filini, the restaurant connected to the hotel, was just awful. The service from our main waitress was so bad that the manager took over and was very apologetic. We saw other customers who were waiting for her to come back as well. The "antipasto" I ordered had a thick tuna sauce over unknown meat, a bean salad in the center and three very thin slices of salami, not at all appetizing. To be fair, the staff did try and accommodate us, but all too little and too late. I suggest turning all the lights on in the hallways, and doing something about the courtyard, flowers or some bright paint color might improve it. Other than that, it is close to the town center, but across from a strip club and plenty of S&M clothing stores, not a location I would bring my children to. If you are traveling into and out of Basel quickly, and not on a Saturday night, it could work for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing out, away from city center, as the rooms facing in have a hideous view and are...

Stayed for 6 nights, first alone in a standard room and during the weekend with my husband in a suite. The ART Basel was taking place that week and it was difficult to get a room in a 5* hotel. The standard room was TINY, but with all the conveniences and quiet as it looked towards the inner patio. As I was not in the room during the whole day, the size did not really matter I was just happy to have been able to get one. The suite we were assigned during the week-end was a big change, lots of space, with a bathtub and a separate shower. Be aware that prices during the ART are exorbitant, the same suite cost SFR1000 more on Saturday night! Buffet -breakfast is good. The staff is very helpful and forthcoming both in the hotel and in the Filini restaurant. We will come back to this hotel, but if possible not during a fair or art show.

Stayed 2 nights for business, and although the hotel is showing signs of its age, it was still good value.
The rooms are reasonably spacious, and the wifi is very good.
The best thing about this hotel is definitely the leisure facilities- great pool and sauna etc. The gym is tiny, and is open to the public, but is adequate. The front desk staff were very helpful, and were able to accomodate a late check-out of 2:30pm without any hesitation. The trams stop right outside the hotel, and there is a great bakery is you dont fancy paying £20 for the buffet breakfast.
Overall a good stay.

The hotel has top class rooms and service. Rooms are equipped, with a TV that has lots of channels in German, English, French and Italian. The hotel has a great location- only five minutes from Barfüsserplatz and is served well by the tram system.

Room Tip: Rooms on floors 1-4 are easier to access.

Business-type city hotel, with friendly and competent staff at the reception. I'd say they make the difference. The rest is 'business as usual', standard rooms, clean and functional. Good location in the middle of Basel.
