“Great 12 night stay at Hotel St. Gotthard”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2014

I just spent 12 nights at the Hotel St. Gotthard and had a great stay. The rooms are nicely sized with a good desk area to work (I was there on business). The included breakfast was very nice, good selection of meats, cheeses, breads, hot dishes, etc. The staff in the breakfast room was very kind and wanted to make sure you felt well served, even thought the breakfast is done buffet style. Food is expensive in Switzerland, so the breakfast is a very nice inclusion. The hotel was very clean and the front desk staff was helpful in the few interactions I had with them.

Probably my only comment would be about the housekeepers. They were outstanding in terms of cleaning, but they start promptly at 8:00 a.m. even on weekends, so if you are wanting some extra sleep, be sure to put the do not disturb sign on the door. Not really a complaint as I love a clean room!

All in all it was a great stay and I would absolutely consider staying here again on my next trip to Basel.

Room Tip: Request a "quiet" room. The hotel is located near the train station, so I imagine some ro...

Great location right next to Basel SBB bahnhof (Railway station) with easy transport links. Very useful as taxi beyond the railway station and hotels are hard to find. Tram is the best mode of transport to get around the city.

A supermarket is located right next to the hotel but was only told on the last day that the minibar in the room is free! Breakfast is simple but good quality.

Woken up early in the morning by the delivery guys, workmen on the street outside the room.

All in all very good hotel, efficient staff but happy to try out other hotels next time in the vicinity! Not cheap for what it is.

I stay at the St Gotthard whenever I travel to Basel, which is typically every 2-3 months. The location next to the train station and a major tram terminus is excellent, the rooms are clean and more than adequate, and staff are always welcoming, friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is very good indeed and the free minibar and wifi are always welcome. Highly recommended.

We were welcomed late on Friday night and had a very good stay at this hotel for the weekend. Breakfast was superb and the rooms very well appointed. Yes there was noise from the road outside but we had been advised about this on Tripadvisor reviews and that was compensated by the hotel's position - right in the centre of Basel with trams and trains on the doorstep.
Good facilities in the room and bathroom were also included.I would recommend this hotel to others as long as they are aware of the noises from the road.

Room Tip: I asked for quiet rooms so am not sure whether we got them!!!

1. The excellent experience began from the moment they sent a welcome e mail. Sometimes, they even confirm that they would be able to accommodate one's request for early check in, NOTHING that any Hotel offers can be better than receiving such a confirmation.
2. Friendly international staff to serve - roon service, in house dining - well trained, professional.
3. Great location, excellent maintenance, free mini bar (small gestures such as these give you a feeling of being in your own house - where else would you reach in to your regrigerator for a cold drink/beer without paying), superb rooms, and lovely lemon yellow curtAins with matching towels.
4. Finally, an excellent front office smiling friendly Manager. Thank you, Mr Thomas.

Room Tip: Do book directly by contacting them on phone. You just might get a better deal.

I use this hotel for business about 6 times a year. It's very good. It's my favourite. Breakfast excellent. Cleanliness 2nd to none. Can be a little noisy at the front at 6am when trams start. Staff very friendly. Good restaurants round the corner for lunch/dinner. Top breakfasts. Location is superb, completely central.

I am living in UAE so maybe I am little bit spoiled regarding hotels, In general, European hotels are not comparable, regarding value for money with the one in the Middle East. Even categorization is questionable..
On the other hand the service in the St. Gothard Basel was good, the staff is friendly and some of the receptionist have good sense for humor which I like. The room is clean, have the basic things that every hotel room have.
The AC did not work well and I was not able to increase or decrease the temperature in the room using the wall control, so that affect my sleeping because it was too hot, and you can not adjust the temperature in this room by simply opening the window, because of the rooms view.
The food during the breakfast was the same every day, and some of the items are not well prepared especially if you come early for the breakfast. For example the berries was half frozen,
Also, the choice of the food could be better.

Room Tip: Do not take room 101. It does not have a view, and the AC doesn't work well.
