We stayed in this castle for our 5th year wedding anniversary as our "special night" while travelling around Italy. This castle was breathtaking. It amazed us how they could have rennovated and modernised the castle so much but kept so much of its original character. This castle was stunning from so many angles, from its gardens, to its view over Umbria, it stonework, and its rooms.

Our room had brilliant timber beams in the ceiling, had a dressing room with plenty of room to leave our bags, and a large esuite. We even had our own private courtyard which we used when we travelled into Perugia and bought some local meats, cheese, and wine, and enjoyed while we unwound taking in the views.

The staff were very friendly and helpful with information about the surrounding area. There are two restaurants at the castle and they are open on different days of the week. The food, albeit was relatively expensive compared to the food we'd been eating in Rome, was really good but you will need a couple of courses to fill you up. The atmosphere was let down a bit by it being during the week and not very full, but how many times can you eat in a castle?! The service was great and the restaurant was opulently decorated.

My only regret with this castle was not staying more than one night!

Dear Craig H,
thanks for spending your "special night" at the castle! We find amazing your review, the description of your experience and the positive feelings it conveys.
It's nice that you bought typical food to taste it while looking at the countryside, from the gardens of the castle: it means that you have been able to appreciate our beauty and that you were happy to be at the at our place, not only for tourism needs. Happiness and beauty are exactly the things we want to give to our guests. We wish that you decide to repeat your experience, so we await for you agian, for a new (and longer) visit at Castello di Monterone.

Stayed one night in the castle. What a beautiful place; a real castle to eat/sleep in. Bed was excellent..no morning back ache. We were told to "explore the castle at our leisure". Front desk and wait staff were so nice. The only odd thing was while having dinner, music playing was Johnny Cash " I Walk The Line". I left a few items in our room.......front desk emailed me, even before back home, that these items were found; contact them about returning them; too far to drive back so they sent by currier to house. All items returned. Yes I would stay here again and recommend to anyone looking for a night in a Castle.

Room Tip: From what I could see, any room would be a good one.

Dear Linda S,
thanks a lot for your words about your experience at the castle. You said "a beautiful place to eat and sleep in" and this is so nice, because it's like describing someone's house. Our guests are the most important part of our job and we are always happy to help them in case of necessity. You did not come back to take your items, but we hope that you will find further occasion to be with us again, anytime in the future ;-)

We stayed 2 nights. We were very pleased with the hotel. Was a very interesting experience to stay in a castle. Nearly all staff were very helpful. Room cleaned 2-3 times a day. And the decoration was excellent.
The only bad thing, was the meal that we had in the restaurant (bigger one). It was my wifes birthday and ruined by the restaurant. I got an uncooked beef eventhough I ordered well done. I sent it back, it came back as how it was. And I couldnt eat it. We wanted to order a mixed salad, we were refused, and we wanted any kind of salad and refused again. This is not acceptable in this kind of hotel.
The meal that we had in the other restaurant (smaller one-Postale) was excellent.

Dear cemarkan,
thanks so much for being our guests for 2 nights, it's great that you have appreciated the beauty and the atmosphere of the castle.
Thanks for your positive comment on Il Postale Restaurant, it's a pity, instead, for your bad experience at the restaurant Gradale, because our staff is always ready to listen to our guests' needs. For this reason, the Reception has been ready to exclude from your bill the dishes you didn't like. We hope this has been appreciated.
We will be so glad to have you again, whenever you decide to book another experience at the castle.

I wish we had time to stay here longer. From the moment we drove up to the castle I knew we had made the right choice. The grounds are beautiful and the view from the castle is stunning. We booked two rooms and both gave us the castle ambiance and experience that we were hoping for, as well as the comfort and cleanliness that we expect. They have small tables and chairs situated throughout the gardens where we were able to sit, drink a bottle of wine, and gaze out into the countryside and Perugia. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was great. We also ate at their restaurant for dinner, which was delicious. You do have to drive into the actual city of Perugia, but it's only about a 5 minute drive. We had a fabulous stay and I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed for 2 nights at the castle and it was so hard to leave to continue on our trip. We immediately felt relaxed, calm and restful, and after 4 full days running around Rome...we needed it! Be sure to plan some time to just sleep in, enjoy the beautiful breakfast buffet and explore the castle grounds. It is more beautiful than can be described here and while the rooms were on the small side, they were not as small as I feared. Everything was very comfortable and when Francesco said, "the castle is at your disposal" he wasn't kidding. Take a bottle of wine up to the roof top patio and enjoy the view. Do not hesitate to stay here if you are in the area - we would go back tomorrow if we could.

PS: Be sure to see Assisi nearby - one of our favorite stops!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Del Rosone Room. Lovely views of the cloister (courtyard).

Dear Dreyfuss,
We are so pleased by these wonderful words, your review can only inspire us to improve further.
Thank you for recommending the castle, we are so happy you appreciated the room, the views, the grounds and the breakfast.
We are so glad that the castle was a place of relax and serenity, we like to think that this can also be a refuge, a place where everyone can feel at home.
For this reasons we take care about every guest, this is what we are here for and we are delighted in doing this. All the staff tries to put its warmth and personality in every little help, because we think that the right atmosphere can enhance the comfort and the quality of people's stay. It is very good to know that it was hard for you to leave!
