Casa San Gabriel is in the Umbrian countryside about 20 km north of Perugia near one of the main north/south highways. As a result, we were definitely in a rural area but had easy access to visit Perugia and the other Umbrian and east-Tuscan hill towns. The cottage we stayed in is charming and had everything we needed. Our hosts were Very helpful and gave us several good recommendations for local places to eat including one just a couple of km away in the same valley. David also has some excellent local wines that he sells by the bottle at very reasonable prices (there are a couple of wineries in the valley). It was between half an hour and an hour drive to most of the hill towns we visited (Gubbio, Assisi, Arezzo, Montone, Perugia, Deruta and Montepulciano), and an hour and a half to Montalcino. We also visited Lake Trasimeno which is a half hour to 45 minutes away, depending on where on the lake. There were lots of other interesting destinations in range for day trips but thats all we could fit inthis trip.
We love Casa San Gabriel and this was a much overdue return visit. A simply stunning location, lovely cottages, fabulous hosts and the perfect base for exploring Umbria. Highly recommend booking a wine tasting at Vineria Del Carmine as its within walking distance! We certainly plan a re-visit.
To our embarrassment it has been 10 years since our last visit to Casa San Gabriel, and we had a truly wonderful and memorable return trip.
Thanks to Chrissie, David & family for your tremendous hospitality and guidance.
It feels like we’ve eaten and drunk out way through Umbria, and Casa San Gabriele was the ideal base to explore.
We even managed wine tasting at the Vineria del Carmine, golf at Antagnolla and an early season swim in the most stunning swimming pool in Italy.
It won’t be 10 years until we’re back again.
Return visit to Chrissie's and David's wonderful La Stalla villa on their grounds at Casa San Gabriel. We were here for a few days to finalise our wedding plans with them at the nearby Chiesa del Carmine. As always they are the perfect hosts and it was lovely to see them, their girls and the super friendly dogs and not forgetting the Alpaca's!!! The villa is set up on the hill top and has the most breath taking views!....there is a fabulous large picture window so you can take in the views from inside and out. The villa has absolutely everything you could need and has been furnished to a very high standard. We cannot recommend this fab villa highly enough and we cannot wait to come and stay again. Thank you as always to Chrissie and David
Time for an Italian fix and of course we chose Casa San Gabriel. A few less leaves on the trees being winter but spectacular views as always this time with snow capped mountains in the distance . Bessie and Cuba , the resident dogs took us for a walk on the new track which conveniently passes the new Vineria.Of course we had to stop! Great time of the year to visit especially when going to the surrounding towns as they are not as crowded.
I brought my family to Umbria to relax in the lead up to Christmas. We loved all the Christmas activities and eating wild boar and all the new olive oils for sale locally, my children make bruschetta every day after returning from walks in the beautiful valley where Casa San Gabriel is situation. We will be back when the pool is open.
My partner and i decided to visit Umbria in the winter. We enjoy walking, eating big hearty meals and visiting an area outside of peak times. It didnt disappoint. We were lucky with the weather, the food is delicious and the local wines at Chiesa del Carmine a fixture on our dining table almost every night of our stay.
