“A little slice of paradise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2014 for a stay in November 2013

Our family group of 9 adults stayed at Villa Capanne in November, 2013 and we had a lovely time. The house and cottage are beautiful and the grounds are spectacular. It was a great base for exploring the region, as well as just lazing around our 'home away from home'. The scenery here is simply unbelievable. I thought the photos looked nice when I booked but I can honestly tell you they do not do the place justice. The view over the golf course and hills from the pool area are breathtaking. I will also mention a couple issues that we encountered, though they were fairly minor, in an attempt to provide an honest and balanced review for other potential guests. The road into the villa is fairly long and consists of dirt/gravel. In November of last year it was not in the best shape and we had to drive very cautiously to avoid large holes which could damage our rental cars. This road does not belong to Villa Capanne so that doesn't reflect negatively upon the property in my mind, but I thought this should be mentioned since most guests will have rental cars as we did and may want to be prepared. We didn't damage any of our cars but driving after dark can be challenging. Just be prepared. Also allow ten mins each way to get in/out btwn the villa and the main road. In the cottage, the pizza oven and fireplace were broken when we arrived. I wish this had been communicated by email or posted note in advance since a fire was nearly started in the fireplace under the assumption that it worked. It's possible this was mentioned to someone in our party and simply not the individuals staying in the cottage. We all arrived at different times and only the first arrivals were given instructions which they then passed on to the rest of us. An 'out of order' or 'do not use' sign on or near the oven would have been helpful just to ensure those staying in the cottage would know not to use it. Fortunately we were all told the oven was broken the next morning and before a fire was lit so all was well. To make up for the lack of fireplace (nights are chilly in November) we were told we would not be charged for heating fuel used at the cottage which was much appreciated. Garbage is not collected for you here. You need to dispose of it yourself. We found this challenging since we weren't familiar with the area and where you can and can't dispose of household waste. We were extremely grateful when the cleaning woman offered to dispose of our final garbage for us since we were all heading for the airport on our last day. The pool was still open when we were there which was a nice surprise! I didn't take a dip personally (c-c-c-cold) but a few other brave souls in our group did and thoroughly enjoyed it. All the rooms here were a good size with private or ensuite bathrooms, so it was perfect for a group like ours. Despite a few minor issues - this is a villa after all, not a hotel - we would highly recommend Villa Capanne to others and would definitely consider returning if back in the area. Just gorgeous!

Management Response
May 26, 2014
Thankyou very much for your review and feedback on your stay at Villa Capanne. I would like to take the opportunity to respond to a number of your comments. I am thrilled that we are finally able to do something about the road up to the property and with the agreement with the owners of the estate, we will be re-tarmacing the worst part of the road below the castle which should make a big difference for future guests. We have also been able to secure the agreement of the council to provide rubbish collection within the estate so that all the properties will be able to recycle and drop off rubbish as they leave the estate. Sadly the pizza oven inside the cottage is still broken and when the owners arrive mid-June we will discuss with them about rebuilding this as it is a fundamental structural problem but the fireplace in the mainhouse works beautifully and we were very pleased to provide the heating free of charge for your stay to make up for this problem. We always try and inform guests of this upon arrival and I am sorry that we informed members of your party who were in the main Villa and not in the cottage. It is difficult with big groups when everyone is arriving at different times to make sure everyone is told everything and we apologise for this. We are very pleased to hear you had a wonderful time staying at Villa Capanne and we would welcome your or any of your parties return. Wishing you all the best for future travel to Italy and thankyou again for your feedback.

“Umbrian Oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2014 for a stay in September 2013

I stayed at Villa Capanne for a week in October 2012, accompanied by some family members and friends. Located in the private and secluded Antognolla Estate, we found this charming, authentically renovated farm house an absolute joy. The infinity swimming pool, paved outdoor entertaining area and garden, overlooked the magnificent championship Antognolla Golf Course, with Antognolla Castle as its backdrop. Inside the house, everything had been thought of to make our stay carefree and easy. The decor was understated and elegant and the house warmly welcomed you as soon as you stepped inside. The large, yet intimate, lounge/dining room had a huge open fire place and a long dining table around which we spent some very memorable nights. All four tastefully furnished en suite bedrooms in the main house, had lovely views and adequate storage space. A second living area upstairs contained comfortable seating and a snooker/table tennis table. The kitchen and laundry were well equipped and there was even a handy outside washing line. Close by was a cute, self-contained two bedroom cottage which was available separately or in conjunction with the main house. You definitely needed a car to stay at Villa Capanne. The nearest main village is the market town of Umbertide, about a 10 minute drive away. For us, the villa proved to be a real sanctuary and a wonderful place to unwind and relax between exploring the many beautiful towns in the area including Cortona, Perugia, Siena, Assisi, Gubbio and the must see pottery town of Deruta. We also enjoyed some fine local cuisine at a variety of restaurants, one of which was conveniently located within the Estate at the Golf Club. David and Chrissie, the managers, were very helpful and offered some great suggestions for our stay. Holidaying at this very special villa was a wonderful finale to our European vacation and we hope to have the opportunity of returning some day soon.

“Words and Pictures don't do it justice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

I can honestly say that this is the best holiday property I have ever stayed in.

Mountainous on all sides and very secluded in the grounds of the Antognolla Golf course.

We rented the large house and the small cottage for 12 of us and we had an amazing one week stay. The Villa was extremely well kept, spotless and had every required amenity.

Most days were spent in or around the pool and most evenings sitting outside at the large dining table.

Two evenings during our stay, we dined at the golf course restaurant. The food was superb. Wood fired Pizza oven, grilled meats and Pasta.
