“Short and sweet”
Reviewed May 3, 2014

I went to San Severo simply to see the Rafael fresco which was very nice to watch and behold in the same room. Though the room could get a bit crowded as there is only one entrance/exit.

“Rapheal”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

The only reason to go here is to see this one fresco. It's included in the museum card and if you take the audio guide from the National Gallery, it has an 8 minute explanation on it regarding the fresco. But it says nearly the same information that is written on the wall in English and Italian. Beautiful to see but that's all there is! It's next to the church of San Severo and is a 7 minute walk from the city center; easy to find. It's open the typical "Italian Hours"-morning and afternoon, closed for lunch. Open every day and Mondays in April and August. Visit if you enjoy frescoes by Rapheal and Perugino. There is a huge sign that says NO PHOTOS, but no one gave it any attention! Small gift shop.

“Like a private viewing”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Not what I expected at all but if you hit it at the right time, it can be just you and Raphael in the same intimate space. This is a one stop shop: just a small room with some chairs and the fresco and one interpretive panel. A charming viewing experience. Does not seem to be open on Mondays, except in April and August. Odd.

“ONLY RAFFAELLO REMAINING IN PERUGIA”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

The Capella di San Severo, Piazza Raffaello, contains the only fresco confirmed by Raffaello and still remaining in Perugia. It represents the Trinity and is on the upper part of the wall when you enter on the right. It is unmistakably the hand of the Great Master. The bottom part is quite different, you can tell right away: it was left unfinished by Raffaello and completed by Perugino.

There is an anonymous statue of the Madona in the middle. The top of the fresco was rather badly damaged, God and the Putty are almost gone and even the recent renovation could not bring them back to life. There is a nominal admission charge. Or, you can choose to buy a "family card" which includes about a dozen museum and churches (see my review of the Galleria delle arte d'Umbria).

“Go to see the Raphael/Perugino fresco!”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

This was a one shot experience. We sat on the chairs provided and gazed at the fresco by Raphael and Perugino for a while, and then left. It's not Raphael's most outstanding work, but still interesting and full of feeling and wonderful color. We hardly did anything else very outstanding in Perugia, but I will remember this.
