This place is fun to visit. It's a small pasticceria, but they also serve sandwiches and simple savory food. The walls are lined with as many licquers as you could name, and some pretty amazing looking candies too. The thing that really knocked off our socks was the hot chocolate, a thick, dark chocolate brew, laced with a bit of cinnamon. It was probably the best hot chocolate we have ever had. Their cappuccino and macchiato were average, in our opinion. Same with the one pastry we ate, a chocolate tart. The shop was quite crowded on the two occasions we visited, filled with locals wanting their coffee or a swallow of grappa or a snack. The atmosphere was indeed old time, and it was also fun to look at the fantastic pastries in the window display.

It is known as the best bar in Perugia / with good reason. It would be wrong to call it less than perfect.. The staff are nice and all the food is good, whether you want a simple bar snack or a midday lunch.

This is not a "pasticceria" this is a time machine. You will travel back in time and find a unique atmosphere ... a postcard from an Italy that does not exist any more. Sandri's history is deeply intertwined in the life and history of Perugia.
They offer only the best quality ... always!
When you go through the door, take the time to savor history...

I have been going there for the past 35 years. The staff is great, super kind, thoughtful and professional. Don't be shy, talk to the staff... even if sometimes they may seem reserved, they are actually all very friendly, they have all worked there for years like a family and they will distill for you anecdotes and historical facts about Sandri and Perugia.

In the winter I go there to escape the cold of Corso Vannucci and enjoy one of their great hot chocolates and in the summer I sit outside, al fresco and enjoy the best view!

It is a gem, I hope it stays there forever.

PS
yes, as someone said below, there is no bathroom, but there is a reason: this place is a national monument and they are not allowed to build one!

Sandri Pasticceria was the best sight in Perugia. It is small but lovely. The chocolate pastries and choices are unbelievable. The hot chocolate here is like drinking a melted chocolate bar - Unbelievable. Nice little sandwiches, pastries, etc. Beautiful mural on walls and ceiling, A must to visit and eat!!!

Opened in 1860, this is THE Bar/Coffee and Pastry shop in Perugia. During the summer months Sandri has tables outside into Corso Vannucci. Inside, it can get a bit cramped. Ideal place for a quick bite or having a coffee with pastries. At night, the atmosphere is quite different, more sophisticated. It is not cheap but the quality of pastries are second to none. Service is very friendly, all waiters have been there for years. Without any doubt, Sandri sells the best Tiramisu in the world, very chocolaty, which you can eat in situ or order for take away. In other words, if you go to Perugia, it would really be a shame not the visit this iconic place. Enjoy !
