The hotel has played host to The Queen Mother and Charlie Chaplin. The welcome from all the staff was superb, always using my name. We were upgraded as we stayed out of season to a suite with stunning views over the town. The decor was full of old world charm with open fireplaces. The small gym/swimming pool had a glass bottomed pool showing the Etruscan ruins below the hotel. The gym area was very small but enough.

The only complaint I have is the breakfast which was significantly over priced at 33 euros a head. However the local cafe was wonderful and only 9 euros for 2 people. As it was out of season the hotel restaurant was empty so we ate locally.

One can see Leading Hotels of the World potential here but it is...potential. The hotel has some charming views but was not a great stay. Awful food but served with resigned charm. "Air conditioning" was set at 28 degrees by reception. Car parking was €30 a day. All in all, hotel was tired and tiring.

We booked our room through expedia for £80 a night which is fantastic value for the quality of the room which was more like a suite. We steered clear of the buffet breakfast which for 37 euros per person sounded well overpriced. We also parked in an underground car park which was a 10 min walk away and was about a quarter of the price of the parking at the hotel. Well worth a visit if you can get a similar promotion.
