Worth a half day trip - 10 minute ferry ride takes you to the island. Limited services, great for walking/hiking. Swimming pool turned into natural pond.

We saw it at the lovely town of Castiglione del Largo. My whole family enjoyed the vistas so much the first time we came, that we returned for a picnic later. The guidebook we had said it was marshy and not fit for swimming. Do not be put off by this..it is well worth a visit.

It is possible to cycle round this lovely lake, about 57km in all. There are cycle tracks and paths most of the way but in some areas one has to cycle on the road. There are plenty of opportunities for coffee stops or even a lunch stop.

We have a mobile home (shanty) here and are lucky enough to be able to Spend a number of weeks enjoying it every summer.

The weather is magnificent as you would expect but the lake generally has a touch of breeze which does help to cool you down. The lake itself offers lots of activity. We swim every day, sail when we get the chance, sea kayak, & surf. In addition if you want more of an adrenalin rush you could always give kitesurfing a go. Around the lake runs a broken path, that can be cycled in its entirety, 60 odd kilometres, or you can just jump from village to village enjoying coffee and ice cream and just watch the world go by. There is a different place to go every day if you desire, all on the edge of the lake, all offering beautiful views serenity and an italian experience.

The pace of life is slow around this area. Its never overcrowded but if you want to do the tourist thing siena florence cortona assisi & perugia to name but a few are in striking distance. Even rome can be done in a day by train.

There is a plethora of restaurants for all budgets across the little lakeside towns. There are some real gems and overall the value is better than one might expect in a tourist area. Accommodation is trickier and tends to be expensive, although value can be found with careful research.

We have been going for ten years now. Our kids adore the place. They are outdoor for fourteen hours a day, no TV no video games just good old fashioned play. Might not be the liveliest place in the world but the days just seem to melt into one another . Tavernelle does have a small water park which is a nice distraction. And for the adults the Terme at Rapolano are an annual treat as is a steak at Taverna di Julio or the Linguini with Lobster at Canta Napoli.

Not a bustling busy tourist area but a great place for a family holiday, water enthusiasts cyclists and italy lovers in general. Those who like it tend to come back over and over again.

A group of 5 on 3 Vespa's, we greatly enjoyed travelling around Lake Trasimeno, stopping along the way for breaks, ice-cream, drinks, lunch, and photographs.
There is a camping ground which we stopped at to use the facilities and purchase water from the shop. The staff were very friendly. Quite a few campers were swimming in the lake in June. Along some of the high roads (we only used country roads as our Vespa's were not allowed on the autostrada) there were amazing views through the green of the trees to the beautiful blue lake. We also found quite a few different market places which were great to wander through and pick up small souvenirs.
Our only problem was not taking note of the road we had started on that morning so did not know where to turn off again. Something to be wary of.
