The food is quite good. The service was OK but not up to the required standard. The chef has talent and some of the dishes look wonderful. The food is not always as good as it looks.

“Fabulous restaurant”

“Creativity seems to have no limits...and with fabulous results!!!”

You are somewhere in Umbria, looking for a dining experience you will never forget, and maybe want to spend a night in a castle?
Then go to the Postale restaurant, chef Marco Bistarelli, located in the Monterone Castle, a hotel in the outskirts of Perugia.
The setting in the castle is really really great for some romance, especially when the weather allows outdoor dining. Service is really good, maybe not at the same level of other starred restaurants, but in any case really adequate. The allowance of ab 4 tables is definitely a plus.

Look like paintings, taste like gods' meals. Some examples? The "Acquario", a preparation of 8 super fresh fishes served raw on a cream made of oyster water, reminding the taste of the sea and looking like an actual aquarium. And what to say about scalops' ice cream or ravioli filled with liquid eggs? No words will ever be enough to communicate how delighted we were.

A special thank you to the chef and his equipe, who contributed with their friendliness and explanations to make this experience unforgettable

“Marco Bistarelli is top!”

When I visited Perugia I wanted to book in Il Postale wich is a Michelin rated restaurant! However I was alone they didn't make any problem of that! I had the superb menu 'acqua'! I always will remember the dish 'dark moments of the chef' it is fish served with the ashes of onions in the ink of squid...quite strange but a nice experience! A pleasant suprise was also the prices...I even got the choice of chosing the tapas version...nice wine, nice decor...top knotch! and what a friendly chef Marco Bistarelli is!

“Good Food and Value For Money”

The dining room is intimate with only 4 tables in total - which can seem a little quiet at times but is on the other hand, a nice change from the hustle and bustle of restaurants. Restaurant offers the option of half (tapasnack) portions on certain dishes which allowed us to try a bigger variety.

For hors d'oeuvres we had half portion of the scallops with spinach and passionfruit (refreshing), half portion of the signature 'subasio mountain under the snow' (found it a bit heavy for our taste) and the "mille-feuille" of tuna and foie gras (very good and tuna blends suprisingly well with the foie)

First course - half portion of the "unstructured" cabonara and a full portion of tortelli of liquid egg, smoked potatoes and black truffle. Cabonara was good but not eye-opening, Tortelli was fantastic but is not a light dish and can get a bit too much after too many bites

Mains - we had signature pigeon (comes with roasted veges and pan fried foie gras) and the soft piglet with apple puree and green beans. The Piglet was a standout dish for us - meat was very tender and succulent, practically falls apart when you cut at it. Bottomline, a simple dish done beautifully. The pigeon was good but again, not eye-opening

Dessert - we were recommended the "autum sea" desert - Almond mike, hazelnut cream, figs and sponge cake turned out to create a surprisingly delicious dessert. Best part for us was it was quite light especially after the heavy dishes that we had.

Overall, food was good and very good value for money. Food + 3 glasses of wine + glass of dessert wine came up to EUR 150 for two people.
