“Magical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

When we arrived at the Hotel it seemed like a dream come true, a beautiful Castle perched on top of a mountain with stunning views, this was only this beginning. We met Lucia and who escorted us to our room, it was incredible, the livingroom had a large fireplace, the bedroom was beautifully done and the bathroom was large with a whirlpool bath. The amenities; beautiful bedding, plush towles and toiletries were fabulous. From each room, including the bathroom, we had stunning views of the mountains and the valley. Lucia could not have been more helpful giving us a tour of the Castle grounds and providing us with the History.
The Dinning room is elegant and beautifully done with white table cloths and candellabra's, it is not stuffy just magical. We were not disappointed with dinner, Pork with cognac and pink peppercorns, Veal carpaccio, Veal tenderloin with mushrooms and pecorino cheese, Mint Sorbet for dessert.
Even though we were the only guest, the next morning's breakfast was incredible anything you could possibly want.
The staff were extremely professional, friendly and eager to make our stay perfect, which they did.
You must include this in your iternerary on your next trip to Italy, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: We had the Stanza Federico Dux suite

This is a place to see and stay at. So much history, so well preserved and in such a beautiful location. The owner is extremely gracious and spent time each day talking to us about this history of the castle and the area. That certainly enriched our experience. Our room was comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious. The breads, cakes and most incredible home made fig preserves were a great start to the day. Coffee was very good. Dinner should be Michelin rated. It was superb each day. The waiter was extremely professional and helpful with our food and wine selections. The Noci was the best!!

What a truly great place to stay.

The castle is beautiful and peaceful. It was a highlight of our trip! We stayed in the Frederico Dux suite. We were told it was the largest room at the castle and it was beyond our wildest imagination with a huge sitting room, bedroom and jet-bath tub. The views over the valley from the bedroom and bathroom were breathtaking. There was a door leading to a common sitting area, which then lead to the common breakfast area. We had dinner at the castle and it was the best dinner we had during our week in Italy. Izzy was a wonderful server and we enjoyed sharing our cultural differences with her. The dinner was relaxing and romantic with candlelight. Lucia who runs the front desk/emails, etc, was pleasant and delightful. The staff is definitely top of the line in Italy! We were thrilled to meet Mr. Sagrini and thank him for sharing his beautiful castle with us! A dream come true!

Duke of MF was a really important dude in Umbria history and this is where he was born. He married his wife at age 13 who bore him 8 kids and died at the age of 26, wow! I liked that the location is near enough to towns to go out for dinner but is super quiet and tucked away. the dinners are very good so you have that as an option. breakfasts are solid. Staff are really really nice and informative. Maybe least stuffy/snobby staff we have encountered on our euro trips? another solid trip advisor lead. Only negative is we had to leave!

My boyfriend and I had such an amazing time!! We have travelled lots and been to many good standard hotels, but this hotel is up there with the best!! We even thought about getting married there. The staff couldnt do enough to help us especially Lucia, she was brilliant!! She works in the restaurant at night and recommended great wines and was very friendly. We sat by the pool and went for a run around the hotel. The food in the restaurant was of a very very high standard!! I joined trip advisor today to let people know about this hotel as I was so impressed.

Room Tip: There is no air con in any rooms

After a wedding in Florence we travelled to Assisi and then found our way to the Castello. It was sublime. Totally off the beaten track in the middle of it's 600 acres was the castle. My parents and I had a suite. The beds were comfy and a good nights sleep was had by one and all. The bath room was large with a bath and separate shower.
Dinner was excellent the dinning hall was out of this world and you felt like a king and queen I. Your own little castle. The staff and owner were so helpful, kind and knowledgeable.
It was a pure pleasure of a stay and one that will not be forgotten. We all wished we could have stayed longer, but we are on a mini road trip around Tuscany & Umbria.
We all would come back again and would recommend it to anyone - it's fabulous! Thank you so much.

Room Tip: Any they are all in keeping and the views are out of this world

This is one of the most unique and beautiful places I've ever stayed - the pictures don't do it justice and can't account for the heady scent from the pine trees! Firstly the staff - Lucia and Leonardo are very welcoming and it's clear they love their work and take pride in the property. Nothing is too much trouble, even sorting out a cold meat & cheese lunch for us on request in the courtyard. We stayed in room 20 which is one of the new rooms. Nice and big with a huge bed (not two joined single beds) and a massive bathroom but a little oddly laid out - it could have done with some comfy chairs or a sofa. The loo is placed right by a low window which had no blind - all the better to admire the view but I did feel a little over exposed!
The property is a little too far away from the nearest town to pop out for food but the dinners we had at Petroia were some of the best we had in our two weeks in Italy, plus the wine list is very reasonable. The icing on the cake is the location though - total peace & quiet & amazing scenery.

Room Tip: Room 20 has amazing view and huge bed!
