This is a two-star hotel without exception. Don't expect to be pleasantly surprised. The first thing I noticed about the hotel was the noise. Some irresponsible parent was letting their four children scream (literally scream, at the tops of their lungs) in the restaurant downstairs. Although we were on the second floor, the noise echoed troughout thr whole hotel. The running and yelling and screaming didn't stop until 11:30pm. And they were back at it around 8:00am.

As far as looks go, the lobby is adorable, the rooms are hideous. Our "honeymoon suite" looked like a teenage girl's bedroom from the 80s. But looks don't bother me, as long as I can rest and relax...that's what a hotel is for, right?

Our bathroom was a joke. But I guess I should be glad we didn't have to share one with the rest of the floor. The shower area is so small that it is inevitable that your toilet (and pretty much everything else) will get soaking wet while you shower. Check out the photos and you'll see what I mean. While showering in the morning, the water pressure went copnletely out. There were also three long, black hairs waiting for us in the sink when we arrived. Not the cleanest place, needless to say.

However, I do have to mentioned that, for the most part, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We accidentally missed breakfast but they saved us a couple of croissants. They were also really quick when fixing the shower.

My advice is spend an extra few euros on a nicer hotel. Essentially, two stars is what you get.

I was very excited to stay at this hotel - it had very good reviews from recent travelers. When I arrived I was told that the bathroom in my room was broken and that I was going to be staying up the street in a different place. It turned out that this other place was a monastery! If I wanted to stay at a monastery to begin, this would have been fine; however, I did not. I paid for a room at San Giacomo and instead was overcharged for a room at a monastery. I was extremely disappointed! The hotel told me that I did not have to pay for the room but the room was already paid for before I left for the trip. Needless to say, I still haven't seen my money yet. I do not recommend this hotel!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you are actually going to stay at Hotel San Giacomo - not up the road!

Excellent location. Clean room. Quiet at night. Good restaurant. Nice breakfast included. Very good value. This is not a luxury hotel, but I found it to be pleasant due to the hard-working family who runs the hotel. They did not speak much English, but were eager to accommodate. The room was cold at first, but eventually warmed when I turned up the radiator.

I traveled with 29 other Americans and we all stayed here at San Giacomo. The service was wonderful- the meals excellent! The rooms are charming- bathrooms a little small. The towels they provide are thin- I suggest bringing your own. There is no internet service- but the front desk allowed a few of us to read our email on their computer...who needs internet anyway in Assisi- it's a beautiful place to embrace a simple way of life...take St. Francis' lead!
