“Charming and Wonderful”
Reviewed January 2, 2007

This hotel made us wish we had more time to spend in beautiful Assisi; the weather was terrible but the hotel was great! Adorable wrought-iron bed with rich brocaded curtains and bedspread, cute baby angels above the bed, and a charming little balcony big enough for two to sip wine and watch the tourists below, if the weather had let us! The price of 60 euros or so can't be beat, and we ended up having breakfast in their rustic stone dungeon of a restaurant. It was continental, not as bad as some reviewers claim, and the cappucino was good. The reception was very kind, bathroom was fine, a tip for all travelers to italy: the shower cubes are not meant to have the water at full-blast, so always watch the water level in the shower or you will end up with a wet floor! Even the nice hotels use this type of shower...it's inexplicable, really. The bed (two twins pushed together, as usual for Italy) was the most comfortable we encountered in a hotel! All in all, highly recommended for budget travelers spending a night or three in Assisi!

We just returned from our first trip to Italy and had the pleasure of staying one night in the town of Assisi, but wish it would have been more nights because the town is so quaint and peaceful. We stayed at Hotel Sole and had a very nice, very clean room even with our own little terrace with a small table and a couple chairs and the night was nice enough that we could sit out there even in November. The bathroom was an okay size and was very clean. The ony problems that we had were communicating with the hotel - they evidently don't have email or a website and we struggled with communicating with them ahead of our arrival. They also don't speak any english at the desk so we did a lot of sign language and our small attempt at Italian. Although we thought we got breakfast with the room, what we got was less than mediocre.....it was cold cereal and a juice and what appeared to be several days old pastry - we were very disappointed in that as we needed to travel all day before we would get to our next destination. We will definitely plan to return to Assisi, but will more than likely look for a different hotel next time.

  • Liked — Room was very clean and conveniently located
  • Disliked — Inability to communicate with hotel prior to arrival and once we got there

This is a small, charming hotel that is furnished throughout with class and style. We stayed just one night this past August and wish we could have stayed longer. We were shown 2 rooms: one on the first floor, the other on the top. It was actually hard to choose between them because the first one had a huge terrace overlooking a cobbled street below. We chose the higher one (but more steps as there is no elevator) which had great views of nearby St. Clair Church through one window, and through a second window/small terrace a view of the castle. The room was very big and tastefully furnished and extremely quiet. The hotel is in the old part of Assisi just 10-15 minutes walk from St. Francis. The breakfast could not be really called a buffet but was more the typical Italian breakfast of coffee and rolls, cereal and yoghurt. It was the only thing about this hotel that wasn't above average. Otherwise, this is a terrific small hotel with great value.

The Sole hotel has a really excellent value for the 62 euros paid per night, which is the maximum you can ever pay there - all included. It is located on Assisi main street (Corso) just in front of Santa Chiara square, which is 2 minutes walk to Assisi Central Square (Piazza del Comune). Stayed there for Calendimaggio, which is an incredible fight between Upper Assisi and Lower Assisi which lasts for three days.
You may be interested in the hotel isn't it? It is lovely. Small hotel, check on the site, very clean rooms, large bathroom, with hairdrier, shower. Lovely corridors with stone walls, and very small lobby, as you may imagine in Assisi. Haven't tried the breakfast, but i think it is good, though a bit expensive (6 euros). Go directly to hotel, ask the kindly person who will receive you, she will tell you where to leave your car: there's a free park 500 metres from hotel, and 2 paying parkings at the same distance. For the booking don't believe the internet sites and call the hotel directly , they don't ask me the credit card number to confirm reservation. Go there and feel part of Assisi. Have fun

I already loved Assisi, but Hotel Sole made my most recent stay unforgettable. The staff is wonderful and pleasant. The room was large and extremely clean.(It was a room that had a front balcony.) The bed was a little on the firm side but every hotel in Italy seems to have extra firm beds. I highly recommend this hotel and will always try to stay there in the future!

We stayed at this hotel recently because, quite simply, I couldn't remember the name of the place we stayed at in Assisi in 1989, which I now realize was the Hotel Posta e Panoramic. The Sole was nice in some ways but our room was overlooking an extremely noisy street - something I thought would be impossible in Assisi, but believe me, delivery trucks start barrelling down the street at 5:30 AM. For the same price we could have stayed at the "Panaromic" which is even more centrally located and offers fantastic views of the plain below Assisi. Incidentally, the restaurant at the Sole, which is supposed to be good, was actually pretty bad. The saltimbocca didn't jump in my mouth: it died on my plate.
