“Excellent Location, Very Comfortable”
Reviewed December 7, 2008

Assisi is a wonderful city to visit, and Hotel Sole was fortunately open in the off-season for our honeymoon. We really enjoyed our stay here, it was very conveniently located off the Piazza Comune in the center of the city, so it was an easy walk to St. Francis Basilica and right down the street from St. Clara. There are excellent restaurants literally 1-2 minutes away, and the Piazza is along a street with great shopping (lots of souvenir shops but other great stores as well). The hotel itself is very comfortable and the staff was pleasant. The street was a little noisy in the evening (outside our window), but we kind of enjoyed the sounds of the Italian city.

Just returned from a weekend in Assisi staying at the Hotel Sole. We had a fab time. Great central location near to all the places of interest and opposite a fab cake and coffee shop!!. We stayed in room 12 which had a small balcony so you can sit and watch the world go by sipping gorgeous italian wine and eating fab cheese and meats. Went to Italy as a treat for a friends birthday and she and her husband thought it was wonderful too. We will certainly return later in the year for seconds.
They serve a simple but adequate continental breakfast and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, even offering to deliver breakfast to us if we wanted once we had chosen what we wanted. We would reccommend this hotel to anyone.

first we adored Assisi, so going there is a must. The Hotel Sole was wonderful. Located just a block or 2 off the main piazza in the walled city. We had a nice new looking room, spacious, in a funny wedge shape building with a window overlooking a tiny street. It was a tad bit noisy at night for awhile, but we didn't mind. TV, hairdryer and a decent restaurant. We paid 65 euros for a double and breakfast was another 10 euros (for the 2 of us). We loved it and would stay there again. Highly recommend it.

We stayed 2 nights in Assisi on a 7 night Italian fly/drive. We stayed at the well-located Hotel Sole, Corso G. Mazzini 35, for 65 Euros—a deal, even without breakfast! Just steps from the piazza. The clean room (#12) was large with A/C, TV and phone. The bed was large and comfortable and the bath was modern with a hair dryer. The room faced the street and we had a balcony on the side which was a treat to watch all the people. But unfortunately it also faced a wine bar and the noise until early morning was awful. The next day was market day, so the vendors came early to set up and . . . more noise.

After reading tripadvisor reviews, I booked a room for my mother and I for Easter Saturday and Sunday. While our room was big and clean, with a central location, there are a few things that need to be pointed out.
Communication--it took several emails to get any kind of response from them.
Noise--our window overlooked an incredibly noisy street (pedestrian and street traffic as well as early morning garbage and delivery trucks). We had specifically requested a quiet room and this was far from it.
Smell---Though very clean, our room had a faint musty smell.
Mattresses--please replace--you could feel the springs in them.
Staff--I find it strange that people rave about the staff. Apart from one of the women who worked at the breakfast room (great service with a smile), the others were indifferent. In fact, the women who checked us in (and was often behind the front desk, didn't even bother to take here cigarette out of her mouth when asking us questions. She just let it dangle between her lips, looking at us as if our check-in was interupting her life.
The hotel was ok for the price, but I would look for another place next time.

What a lovely hotel this is. The rooms are quiet and comfortable. The staff is friendly and very, very helpful. I feel as though I'm part of the family when I stay here. They even expressed concern for my safety on my return trip to the states, , since I was travelling alone. The food here is excellent. Breakfasts were filling and dinner was fabulous every night. I have recommended this hotel to my friends who were also very satisfied.

This hotel made us wish we had more time to spend in beautiful Assisi; the weather was terrible but the hotel was great! Adorable wrought-iron bed with rich brocaded curtains and bedspread, cute baby angels above the bed, and a charming little balcony big enough for two to sip wine and watch the tourists below, if the weather had let us! The price of 60 euros or so can't be beat, and we ended up having breakfast in their rustic stone dungeon of a restaurant. It was continental, not as bad as some reviewers claim, and the cappucino was good. The reception was very kind, bathroom was fine, a tip for all travelers to italy: the shower cubes are not meant to have the water at full-blast, so always watch the water level in the shower or you will end up with a wet floor! Even the nice hotels use this type of shower...it's inexplicable, really. The bed (two twins pushed together, as usual for Italy) was the most comfortable we encountered in a hotel! All in all, highly recommended for budget travelers spending a night or three in Assisi!
