“Stunning, unforgettable holiday and wedding!”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

We held our wedding at Le Silve in July 2012 and it was absolutely amazing wedding and four day event. We had 65 guests who stayed with us at Le Silve 4 days, with their accommodation all within the grounds of Le Silve, staying in the hotel and the nearby farmhouses. All our guests had a fantastic time – we didn’t even need to seek feedback from them, just told us almost every day how amazing the setting, ambience, hospitality and food quality was.

The setting is stunning, incredible views and everyone who works at Le Silve is so friendly and accommodating. In fact it felt like we were part of the Le Silve ‘family’ - we got to know all the staff and the owner Marco very early into our stay. Nothing is ever too much trouble. It took us two years to organise our wedding ourselves, and Francesca, the Manager at Le Silve was always happy to answer any questions and provided so much help with everything for the wedding. The food at the wedding was incredible, as was the meal they organised the night before and the day after. We also stayed at Le Silve for a week before, and two months before the wedding and ate a number of times at the Armentum restaurant and the food was always lovely and beautifully presented. We couldn't recommend Le Silve highly enough for a romantic break, relaxing getaway or a wedding and will always treasure our memories of our wonderful time there.

Fifteen years ago we stood on the walls of Rocca Maggiore in Assisi and looked over a beautiful valley that we wanted to explore. That's how we found Le Silve. We've been going back ever since. The hotel is special. It has managed to retain the feeling of a simpler, more rustic life while providing everything the modern traveler looks for. The hotel, an old farm house, looks out on a tiny hilltop village. It's surrounded by hills with walking trails where we have never failed to see deer and baby wild boar. You can walk to a waterfall or an old bridge over a small gorge or even go horse-back riding on the property itself.
The hotel lobby and dining room have fireplaces, which are always lit when it's cool. The main building has charming little sitting rooms decorated with old farming tools. When the weather is nice, you can sit on the terrace looking up at Armenzano. In the evening in the spring when we go down to dinner we often get side-tracked for a few minutes watching amazing sunsets.
The restaurant is so good! There are traditional Umbrian dishes with modern twists. We particularly enjoyed the pasta with wild boar sauce, various truffled dishes and the cured meats made from various animals raised on the property. The Umbrian and Tuscan wines are excellent and reasonably priced.
Everyone on the staff is always warm and very helpful.
The hotel is a little isolated, half-way between Spello and Assisi (about 6 miles to either one) but the views looking up into the mountains, villages and down into the valleys are what we come to Umbria to experience. It is also a good location for day trips to Norcia, Spoleto, Gubbio and Terni.
We love this hotel and miss it when we leave.

As part of a walking trip through Mt Subiaso National Park from Assisi to Spelo we spent two nights at Le Silve.
The staff was very helpful and pleasant.
Our atmospheric room with its glassed in "terrace" with views of the adjacent valley was lovely (though screens would have been appreciated as the windows had to remain closed because of a lot of BIG flies). So the above ranking really is for the room.
The restaurant (which is really one's only option) was disappointing. Individual dishes stood out (truffle ravioli with fried leek) while others were just so-so. A MAJOR slip was a large server of what tasted like instant coffee on the breakfast buffet (which was pretty much the standard buffet we encountered everywhere during our trip). You could order real coffee from the overworked waitress, however. But, who wants to wait for coffee?. We also echo the puzzlement as to having the bar closed in the afternoon...a cold drink would have been very welcome after the long walk.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback. With regard to your comments on our restaurant and bar, we appreciate your advice and please be reassured that we will take them into account.
However, we would like to clarify that the bar opening hours are the following: 8am-midnight. If our waiters were not available in the above times, we do apologize for any inconvenient this has caused you.

We hiked in and out of Le Silve as part of a 'self-guided' walking tour package. The bar staff very kindly opened up to serve us drinks that first hot afternoon (from a North American point of view, we were just a bit mystified that the bar should close at 4 and the restaurant not open till 7:30 or 8...). Our room had thick stone walls and enough windows to let us enjoy the mountain breezes. Well-appointed bathroom, minibar and safe, a lovely sitting room down the hall, a small library and a free Internet station completed our comfort. Great bed. The food took advantage of seasonal produce from zucchini to summer truffles, and the waiter made some excellent wine recommendations (no wines by the glass, unfortunately). There are paths all around the property for more hiking. We chose to spend most of our free day at the panoramic pool with its stunning views of Mt. Subasio and the valley. I don't know how well this would work as a touring base for the region if you are a car tourist, but it was a delightful place to rest up.

We drove several miles out of Assisi on very windy roads to reach this hotel in order to eat in the restaurant. What a disappointment. The service was unprofessional and the food of poor quality. A waste of effort and money. Don't bother making all that effort.

Friendly staff run this lovely hotel in a beautiful location. However the restaurant food is over-priced & not as good as they seem to think. The menu is large but did not change in the 4 days we were there, also the same menu for lunch ie little pasta , no salads etc.
