This is a wonderful traditional hotel with stunning views. We were in room 34 and it had an amazing view from a lovely balcony. The owner had thoughtfully put two armchairs and a small table in the room to take full advantage of the view. The breakfast was lovely. The hotel is in such a good position right in the centre of the town but very quiet. It is a bit of a walk from the car park but the owners directions are excellent and there is an escalator and you get a discount voucher for the parking from the hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

Hotel Umbra is awesome! The rooms are huge with great views from the balcony! It is close to everything, as it is right in the Piazza Commune, which is a 5min walk to the Church of Saint Chiara and 5min walk to Basilica of San Francesco. Staff is so helpful and friendly, breakfast is delicious, with a great variety of breads, pastries, cold cuts, cappuccino, juices..etc...
If you are driving, you need to stop/park at the Piazza Commune/City hall, you can stay for 15min, and haul your bags to the hotel, which you won't be able to see until you walk to the center of the square and look to your left, and hotel staff will give you the map with directions to the parking garage, which is just 3min away by car, but you won't want to park before you bring your bags to the hotel, cause there are hills and stairs on the way from the garage to the hotel. Assisi is one of the most beautiful cities we have ever visited, and Hotel Umbra will make your stay unforgettable. Enjoy!!

Room Tip: Choose a room in the back of the hotel. It has an amazing view form the balcony. Hotel is very clean...

We only had one night in Assisi, and that is simply not enough. Next time I am blessed to go there, I will most definitely stay here again. Rooms were lovely, clean-- and everything was just as I had envisioned Italy, in Assisi and this hotel. The breakfast they served our large group had a wide variety of foods--the only negatives was the eggs they made with anchovies. We had an Umbrian dinner in the evening, which was lovely. I love how the hotels put their names on all their dishes. We had a few very loud ladies in our tour group, and soon we were too loud for the restaurant, but the hostess tolerated the noise for as long as she could for the other guests. The hotel is just central to everything. The hotel staff nicely hauled all of our luggage to the tour bus...no small feat! Lovely hotel and staff--writing about it makes me miss Assisi!

We were only in Assisi one night and stayed at Hotel Umbra based on Rick Steves' recommendation. It is a charming hotel and our room was lovely. The hotel is right off the main Piazza Commune and we were warmly welcomed by every staff member. The room was spacious and both the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was a mini frig in the room (and the cold beverage was very welcome on a warm afternoon), a beautiful outdoor terrace with amazing views, and free WiFi. The restaurant was closed that day but we were given a wonderful restaurant recommendation which ended the day on a perfect note. Breakfast is included but my only complaint is that it was the first time in Italy I had a bad cup of coffee. Perhaps trying to appease Americans, they served coffee in a large carafe like you would see at a conference event site in the U.S. I missed the typical cappuccino or espresso, but the food itself was very nice. We would definitely return for an extended stay and recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced hotel that is in the center of the city.

Room Tip: We chose the less expensive room option and were delighted. If you aren't going to be in the ro...

Just literally steps away from the town square and easy access to everything in Assisi. Restaurants just across the plaza and next door. Bakeries within arms' length. We arrived just days before the Pope's visit last October and the power throughout the town center was off while they spruced up for the big day but the staff welcomed our Rick Steves' group with full information and suggestions on how to deal with the expected lack of power and hot water for several hours. Comfortable bedding and lovely balcony in Room 20 (I think). Highly recommended.

Have stayed here on three separate occasions, single room. One stay was a last minute reservation when trip plans changed & they were most accommodating. Rooms are clean, staff is eager to please, location - just off the main square and steps from the official tourist office. They have a small restaurant featuring local cuisine plus bar. Good quality for the money, quaint and family own and run.

Room Tip: I always request a quiet room and have not been disappointed. However, when making reservations mak...

Very large room with beautiful 200 degree view from the balcony and two oversized windows. Large wingback chairs for enjoying wine and view in air conditioning! When you imagine a classic chic European hotel built into a city wall, this is it. (And yes, classic charm comes with classic fixtures). Very accomodating, helpful staff. With our reservation confirmation, they emailed us maps and directions for parking and access which were spot on. Finding the hotel itself was a bit more difficult since it sits privately down an alley. We were surprised that locals didn't recognize the hotel name. Be prepared for walking what seems to be only uphill! Huge soaking tub and free wi-fi that actually works! Breakfast had nice selection of pastries and fresh apricots that were obviously local. Assisi was our first stop of a 30 day trip. We selected it as a "throw down" just in case we were delayed by the airline (of course we were but only 4 hours). We should have scheduled a second day because there is much to see and do in addition to the St Francis Basilica. Hotel Umbra is just off the central square, Piazza del Commune, which is quite lively and enjoyable in the late evening with a beautiful old fountain. But best of all is the balcony with unforgettable sunrise and sunset views!!!

Room Tip: Get your bearings and directions from the square before heading out on a walking tour -- every thing...
