“A Lot of Steps but Worth It!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2012

The hike to the fort, Rocca Maggiore, involves 181 steps each way and a lot of uphill but is definitely worth it! The views on the way to the fort are beautiful and the view from the top is amazing. The fort itself is fascinating. You can walk around the rooms and experience what it must have been like centuries before. It is definitely worth the hike to the top. Be sure to bring your camera.

“Awesome views from the top!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2012

I loved this place. We walked to and from Assisi and it wasn't that bad. Took 15-20 min each way. We climbed to the top of one of the towers and got fantastic views of Assisi and the Basilica. It is a large fort in ruin, but I wouldn't miss this one!!!

“Wonderful panorama”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2012

A very good place to have an overlook on Assisi and the Umbrian hills. To go up to the place, the walk in the narrow streets is nice and not exhausting.

A fortress that is at the top of the town of Assisi, with wonderful views across the valley.

“Worth the Walk!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2012

This castle looks like it will be quite a steep walk from the town center but it's not. And, the views along the way are worth visiting it on foot. But, if for some reason you'd rather drive there is lots of free parking to accommodate you at its perch.

We've travelled Scotland and visited dozens of castles and while this one is not as well maintained as the any in Scotland (i.e. manicured grass and interior removal of birds and bird droppings) it is a splendidly well preserved castle with spectacular views of the town below. Great for pictures!
