Went to vespers a few times with the Poor Clare nuns. Beautiful and prayerful. Disappointed that most of the frescoes have been erased. I especially liked the art depicting Clare's life in the semicircle around her tomb.

This was opposite our hotel and was the first visit we made upon arrival. Very much worth it, beautiful building with an interesting crypt.

This is such a special place! St Clares remains are actually in this church! Holiness exudes from the walls and fills the air. Also found in this church are relics of St Clare and St Francis. A great place to visit--- truly a blessed and very holy ground.

It was quiet and not too ornate which we liked. The crypt was very beautiful. Mass was going on at the time and a big group was singing outside which added to the atmosphere.

Of course we also had to visit the church of Saint Francis' companion Saint Claire while we were in Assisi. Although quite crowded there was such an air of peace and serenity everywhere. It was fascinating to see the relics of the clothes Claire and Francis had worn, and try to imagine (difficult) what their lives must have been like. So lucky they were, finding a joint mission in serving the deprived and destitute and thereby drawing closer to Divinity. They were rebels, both of them, forsaking rich and noble lives for what their hearts believed in. A delightful church, highly recommended!
