“Anne + passion and expertise = Umbria's Best Travel Guide!!!!”
Review of Anne's Italy

Anne's Italy
Ranked #4 of 11 Tours in Assisi

Reviewed July 8, 2013

My recent visit to Perugia gave me another opportunity to tour Umbria with Anne. What started as an outreach via Italian Notebook in 2011 has turned into opportunities to visit hill towns in Umbria with the best travel expert in the region - in 2012 and more recently in June, 2013.

Anne and I spent three days together visiting Perugia, traveling to Spoleto and Spello as well as visiting the beautiful "Piana di Castelluccia di Norcia." While the summer flowers were late arriving due to the cool and wet spring - the views and the drive were still well worth the trip. The town is known for its lentils and people drive for hours to enjoy the beauty of the mountains and the flowers...and of course, buy lentils.

Anne's tours of Perugia and the other cites were interesting and filled with the history of each of the towns and its people. We walked through ancient ruins, churches - took in the incredible views of the Umbrian hillside. Anne's knowledge makes these cities all the more interesting!!

Anne's energy and enthusiasm, added to her knowledge and expertise, make her the best Umbrian Travel Guide!!

If you want to get under the skin of Umbria, Anne's the guide for you. She doesn't let anything stand in the way of giving you an insider's look at the history and customs, the food and the festivals of Assisi and the surrounding area. And, like on our recent visit to Spello's infiorate, there are always interesting people to meet, whether a local shop owner, musician or monk.

I have had top quality guides in a number of countries (and continents), but no one has ever been has good as Anne Robichaud. You will get a unique and moving feel for the Italy she knows so well. She not only knows all the facts required of licensed guides, but she will introduce you to the people of the towns and countryside of Umbria. I have done now done three very different tours with her: a several-day tour focusing on St. Francis, a tour focusing on several nearby small towns and the amazing spring festa in Assisi, and a day in Perugia. I will happily join another of her tours the next time I'm lucky enough to return to Italy. You will miss something very special if you don't let her show you her Umbria.

It doesn't matter what season you visit Assisi, if Anne Robichaud is your guide. We have had that pleasure many times with friends and family. In the spring, her unique perspective of Assisi’s history, architecture, and contemporary life glows with the Candelmaggio Festival, as Annie greets everyone in town and they greet her. In the summer you might enjoy a wine tasting with Roberto and his beautiful family in Spello prefaced by visits to all the local artisans: a fresco in the process of restoration, a tablecloth that will grace your life for years, a spiritual moment with Brother Paolo as he shows you both his floral recreations of Infiorata Festival and the rosaries he makes from seeds-- all such moments are gifts that can be received only from Annie. Or perhaps you will be there for autumn and spend the evening at the Black Celery Festival where Annie will introduce you to everyone at the sagra, whether she knows them or not. Singing, dancing and the opportunity to experience many of the local sagras make Annie’s autumn perhaps the best season of the year.

But my favorite season with Annie is winter, Buon Natale, where the lights drape through the streets, a nativity scene can be found in every niche, even in a golden tire at the mechanic’s shop, and the presepe vivante change the surrounding towns into living history. Annie’s wit, knowledge, and experience make every tour with her personal, often ending with an evening at her own table. And of course, if you can’t make it to Assisi, Annie will come to you with lectures and cooking lessons stateside. Annie truly is a woman for all seasons. And those of us who love Italy, thank you, Annie!

To Anne
Amore Italia Tours want to say a huge thank-you to Anne for bringing Assisi to life with her dazzling commentary on the history of the Basilica.
As we proceeded through the city, our eyes were opened to various gems of information. Anne is extremely passionate about Umbria and has amazing knowledge of the history of St Francis of Assisi and the Umbrian region.
We would highly recommend Anne's tour if you are ever in Assisi. It is definitely a must do tour.
