“Overpriced and understaffed”
Reviewed November 23, 2011

We would not recommend this restaurant. We felt cheated. When it came to "sweets" they had run out. Very poor indeed

“Wonderful little restaurant”
Reviewed October 17, 2011

We tried this restaurant last night after reading about it in the Lonely Planet guide. It is very close to Piazza del Commune, the centre of Assisi, however, without a local map it is hard to find the street. The outside of the restaurant is quaint with flower pots around the entrance. Inside it is a lovely cellar style design. We were the first there but it didn't take long for others to arrive. None of the staff spoke English but that didn't matter as we manager to communicate easily enough and the menu has an English translation.

The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. The portions of food served were large and it was well cooked and very tasty. Local wine is served in a glass or a carafe ranging from 250ml to a litre. The wine was good and very cheap. The restaurant is very clean with bathroom facilities off the restaurant. Overall the restaurant Has a very friendly, family feel about it. Prices are very reasonable and in fact cheaper Than most in Assisi. If you are after a 3 star Michellin restaurant go elsewhere but for a great meal this is the place.

This restaurant was so good we are going back there tonight.

“Simple hotel, nice people, very good food”
Reviewed October 20, 2010

We booked a room for three nights in Grotta antica hotel during the period of Eurochocolate, to visit both Assisi and Perugia. We found a very simple hotel, really clean, with nice people. They were really funny, always at guests' disposal and friendly. Room was simple, bathroom small but functional. The price was 50 euro per night (double room). Restaurant was fantastic: good prices (around 20 Euro each) and portions really rich. Desserts are handmade.
fantastic! The only problem: no english speaking.

“Poor food, overpriced, avoid it!!”
Reviewed May 27, 2010

Having read a recommendation in the Lonely Planet guide, we thought this might be a good place to go for having dinner (it's a hotel with restaurant in the center of Assisi). Well our first impression was positive and we thought we'll get good italian family food (it didn't look like a tourist trap). We went for the set menu for 15 Euro consisting of two courses. While the first one with pasta was ok (but also not exiting), the second one was not good at all - actually my worst dinner during a three weeks journey. Wine and water was not included in the price, also no salad or desert. The wine was ordered separately but was sour. Service was ok, but not English speaking.
There were just a few tourists in the restaurant, no locals.
Well 15 Euros doesn't sound much, but in other places you will get a much better food for the same price. Our bill was close to 40 Euros but without desert or coffee - and a poor dining experience.
I was disappointed about the restaurant and can only advise to avoid it.
We didn't see many restaurants in Assisi, there a more takeaway-places - probably the better and cheaper option. Or go to Perugia, there a plenty of restaurants.
