“Central and pretty”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

Up a side alley off via S.Ruffino just up from Piazza del Commune so central but nicely off the tourist path ..... plenty of outdoor seating and a welcome rest after traipsing the path of St Francis! Service was very friendly but the food a little disappointing and a bit on the expensive side for what you got.

“Mediocre food, water and wine and so so service.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

Visiting Assisi with friends we stopped for coffee at the Cafe Duomo and while there asked for a recommendation for a non touristy place for lunch. (Haha should have known better and how we wished we had looked at Trip Advisor). The owner of Bar Duomo recommended La Lanterna as her favorite restaurant and where the chef was "very good". Tucked up a pretty little side street with plant tubs either side it looked promising. We sat outside and the menu looked ok with one or two dishes we hadn't seen before. Wished we had stuck to Pizza as the pasta dish a friend and I ordered (cannot recall its name but it was supposedly little local dumplings with peccorino and tartufo) had the slightly slimy texture found in porridge, the "dumplings" were not much bigger than grains of rice and despite the strong flavour of tartufo there was not much to be said about it - in fact overall it was bland. Another member of the party had the Lasagna and that was really mediocre. The side salad we ordered was ok, the water arrived in an open ."carafe" which bore the legend of a company that supplies water filters and fizz machines for cafes so we suspect it was actually just sparkling tap water, the carafe of house red was slightly fizzy and a not a nice example. . Service while not rude was rather less than the usual standard found in Italy and as we finished we noticed that other tables being vacated were subjected to nothing more than a perfunctory "flick down" for crumbs and no attempt to change the table cloths - again not of the usual standard. We visited the inside of the restaurant to use the bathroom and it looked nice, the tables laid with sparkling glassware etc. Loos clean enough. Prices about average but given our experience not worth it. Overall would say don't bother - wish we had just grabbed a slice of pizza and a drink at one of the numerous outlets, or looked for somewhere else.

“Very disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013

This restaurant was recommended in the guidebook we were using and it turned out to be a big ripoff in our opinion. We went there this afternoon for a late lunch. We both ordered different salads and both came with all iceberg lettuce. Mine came minus the cheese that was supposed to be in it and I had to ask for it. They did bring it so maybe it was an oversight. However, we each ordered one glass of house red wine. In a place where the salads were 6 euros and 6.5 euros, the two glasses (total) cost 12 euros. For house wine. We have been traveling in Italy for 2 weeks and nowhere have we paid anywhere near 12 euros for 2 glasses of house wine. I feel we were completely ripped off on the wine. There was also a 4 euro cover charge, which is not unusual. But in the end, for 2 mediocre salads and 2 glasses of house red wine we were charged 28.50 euros. I guess they figure we are not coming back, but others should be warned. The charming atmosphere did not make up for this experience.

“Dinner”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2013 via mobile

Stopped by for an early dinner. We were very pleased with the atmosphere and the bruschetta Our entrees were also good but the bread was stale and the wine options not very good. As long as your expectations aren't high you should be good.
