The museum is well done with interesting displays. Unfortunately most signs are not in English however there are translations and ipod tour available. The most amazing thing for us was the town. This town is beautiful, a highlight of our 4 week stay in Italy, we just wish we had of known and would have allowed much more time to explore it..
I would want 5 or 6 hours to explore this town and hope to one day come back.

Vinci is a lovely find nestled just West of Florence. We came here twenty years ago and have returned because we enjoyed the experience that much. The museum houses built creations of Leonardo's visions, some from the twenties. An excellent video describes how Leonardo's mind worked and processed the world around him and gives an overview of his life. A short hike through some breath-takingingly beautiful olive groves brings you to the house he was born in. The church in town holds the baptism font that he was baptized in. My only regret is that they do not have more in-depth information in English. They do offer audio tours though which we do not take.

I was expecting Leonardo "the experience" but was actually pleasantly surprised by the more practical nature of this museum. €8 entry for both museums ( and if you are lucky enough to be kidnapped by a precocious 7 year old italian kid who will show you how everything works) it is quite entertaining. More of a family destination.

Visited Vinci as side trip on the way to Florence. Glad we stopped in to see the reproductions of many of Leonardo drawings. For the mechanically inclined, this is a must see destination, for those expecting to see his artwork you may be a bit disappointed.
Otherwise, interesting exhibits, each model has either a video demonstrating its use or a written folder in multiple languages posted near by. Great view from top of the castle.

Walking through piazza da poppolo we almost walked past this museum. So glad we didn't.
The museum concentrates on the machines and inventions rather than the art, but this makes it very hands on and interactive. Great for kids and big kids. I learnt things I didn't know and was left wanting to find out more. A man born before his time. 7euros well spent.
