“Great food and atmosphere”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Excellent homemade food and house wine at a good price. The atmosphere was relaxed and predominantly young with not a tourist in sight!

“Book ahead”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

We were lucky to get the last table, but in the back of the restaurant, where the air-conditioning doesn't reach, so it was uncomfortably hot, even at 9 pm
I am sure the service is excellent out of tourist season (There were a number of local families at the outdoor tables.), but our potatoes never arrived and we waited too long between courses. I also dislike being charged €2 per person "cover".
The cooking is simple - lots of very skillful char grilling, with a generous use of local herbs - and the quality of the meat is excellent, producing delicious results. Portions are enormous. I got through half of my - filet strips in herbs - but didn't need that much (and couldn't face dessert, though they looked good). The vegetarian among us had the Tuscan soup, which she rated highly.
The taverna has a small wine list including regional wines by the glass and carafes of house wine, attractively served.

“traditional Tuscan food”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

food is excellent if some of the dishes are a bit substantial! Close to the Duomo for easy walking access from the town and street-side outdoor seating which is very atmospheric in the evening

“Excellent experience of Italian food”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Our guidebook listed this as one of its recommendations, and the first time we went we had no reservation and appeared on a Wednesday evening and were welcomed straight in. We had excellent pasta and ragu followed by florentine steak and (in my case) ossobucco. The ragu had a concentrated flavour - not too much tomato and I suspect a little bone marrow with th mince, The steak was greatly enjoyed.

My children (15 and 10) enjoyed the evening so much that we went back on the following day, but at 8pm we were not lucky and despite the entreaties of our waiter with his boss, we could not be accommodated. We made a reservation for the following evening and this time we ate outside, starting with a superb plate of mixed antipasta for two, followed in my case by a very tasty and well cooked tomato and cheese risotto. On both occasions we were supplied with plenty of bread and water, the wine was appropriate and the service great. Nothing adverse I can say at all.

“How hungry are you?”
Reviewed June 26, 2013 via mobile

This place was recommended to us by a local friend. He advised us to try the Fiorentina steak, which we did. 1kg of Fiorentina is enough for 2 people to share, and we had a mixed salad and peperonata (Italian bell pepper salad) alongside. All excellent. The Morellino di Scansano wine was also enjoyable.

This place is easy to find. Walk from piazza del campo towards the duomo, and you'll find it on via del Capitano. Reserve in advance.
