Fab place, off the tourist track and WELL worth a visit!

Waiters are friendly and helpful (referencing other reviews: not "U.S. standard" as you are in Italy and therefore different - i.e. Italian!). Ask about their dishes and they are more than happy to explain how they're cooked. Wine is just amazing, local house wines so much better than in the UK an all round enjoyable experience, would eagerly recommend to any of my friends should they be visiting Siena and wish for an authentic Italian experience, as whilst we were there tables were filled with locals - always a sign of a good, well-established restaurant.

PS. Nothing "haughty" about the waiters, and when we asked for oils and extra plates they were provided without hesitation. Great little restaurant.

The hotel staff recommended this Taverna but I was so glad I had checked it out on Trip Advisor before we went. The staff were all wearing T shirts saying "This is not a bar." They are quite haughty and completely self assured. This place is not about service but about the proprietor's opinion of the food they serve. It would not have been so amusing had we not known to expect this in advance. In fact, I watched a couple at another table throughout their meal as they were baffled by the waiters. They tried to ask for olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a plate for their bread; they were ignored. They asked for salt and were told they could not have it. Then, the waiters ignore you until they feel like noticing you. Clearly, not up to U.S. service standards. Yet, knowing all this ahead of time, we were able to enjoy the proprietors' haughtiness rather than feel put off. The food was good but not amazing or outstanding. However, the atmosphere was causual and it was perfect for us after a long and very hot day of sightseeing.

“bellissima”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

my fiance & I have eaten here twice in the past 3 years. Whenever we go to Siena, this is a must for us. The first time was Feb 2010, and although it was a sad day for both of us, ( I was leaving the next day to go back to Australia) we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. I still remember the pork cooked in Balsamic Vinegar, simply devine. This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts.

“Maybe you can order here better than we did...”

One dish, pasta with red bell peppers and marscapone, was creamy and awesome. My daughter keeps dreaming about it. Unfortunately, the rest of our food was mediocre. The thinly sliced staek was gnarly ad topped with sandy mache. Friendly waitstaff, inviting decor, good local wines.

One of our best meals in Tuscany. My sister even went back home and tried to imitate the wonderful chicken and black olive dish we had there.
