This was a great B&B experience. It was charming and rustic- exactly what I'd expect if you told me I'd be staying at a castle on a hilltop. Nicola was wonderful a host. The room was large and comfortable, although keep in mind that we stayed there in May which is a temperate time of year in that region. The associated farmhouse restaurant, Le Pietre Vive, was the best meal we had in Italy. It was fresh, simply-prepared Tuscan country fare, personally served to us by the host and chef, Giacomo. If I were back in the area, I would absolutely stay there again. My caution to fellow travelers would be this: I would not plan to stay there unless I had a rental car. Also, I am at least an average navigator and getting there proved a challenge. There is an easy route and a less-easy route and GPS does not always recognize the difference. I suggest that you try to arrive before nightfall if possible. That matter aside, I would highly recommend this place as a truly unique vacation experience for those who like to be off the beaten path from time to time.

We were lucky enough to get a tower room. Just driving up to the castle itself was incredible. Surrounded with olive trees and foliage. Who'd a thunk we'd stay in the once a fortress towers. We had a 360 view out of many windows. the excitement of the views woke us up out of bed very early in the morning. Nicoleta and his family was very warm and sweet they treated us with much hospitality. Coming home I'm the evening was a bit scary in the dark but such a great experience. The lobby were full of books. One of which about castles with Quattro Torra being smack dab on the cover. Overall great stay. Peaceful. Quiet. And homely. Love this homebase.

Room Tip: Tower room any of them. I think we stared in the main tower. If stairs are in a issue I wouldn't...

If you are planning a visit to Siena and want to stay in a Castle, stay here. Its located close to the main part of town but not in the centre so its very quite. I would recommend having a hire car if you want to stay here, probably a 5-10 minute drive from town centre. Easy to find if you have a map or GPS. Upon arrival, the owner Nicola will meet you at the Castle entrance. He is very welcoming and friendly and happy to explain the history of the place. Just so you know what to expect, it is a traditional castle that has been refurbished to be very warm and comfortable but still has its original architecture. This is not a grand plush castle with marble and gold all over the place so if you want that look elsewhere. I thoroughly recommend staying here to anyone wanting to relax. You have your own private room and bathroom with shared lounge room and meals area, however i think there are only 4 or so guestrooms so it wont ever be overcrowded or noisy. The views from the castle towers are absolutely stunning, countryside as far as the eye can see. The estate also makes excellent wine which you can drink at your leisure. Be prepared to relax and enjoy!

This place was fantastic. A beautiful castle with very old charm, but still comfortable and well put together inside. Nicola and all the staff were awesome, picking us up from the train station and getting us situated in our room. Great breakfasts and fantastic hospitality. Also highly recomended would be heading to "Le Pietre Vive" restaurant, which is a couple minutes drive away. An ariturismo that is associated with Quattro Torra, the dinner was top notch, the chef/waiter/host/comedian Jaume made the night one to remember.

My wife did it! Found the gem among gems. On researching here online and in reading Rick Steve's, she settled on this 14th century castle established to defend the Sienese against the Florentines. The current proprietor, Nicola, has taken over management of the castle from his mother whose family it has passed down through. Nicola is incredibly friendly and helpful.

In short, a great stay, but requires the ability to climb stairs and if you want to stay in the tower room, up a narrow circular staircase - so no luggage larger than you can easily carry.

The castle is a simple structure with 4 towers. You walk up a fairly long series of relatively steep steps to arrive in a open living room reminiscent of old hunting lodges but without all the crude trophies. Large unfinished wooden beams and a fireplace in the center offer the first time visitor with a sampling of your stay and a chance to catch your breath from the climb. If you are staying in the tower room, which we highly recommend, it is also a chance to steel yourself against the final stage of your ascent, up a narrow steel circular staircase.

The tower room has a 360 degree view of the underlying castle, Siena on the hill in the distance, and the surrounding countryside. The tower room is a split level apartment with a living area and bath on the first and a very comfortable sleeping are with queen sized bed on the second. The windows on both levels open to let fresh air in and the photographer a chance to crane their necks and get the dawn shot with the vibrant colors of the countryside.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The only thing that was not exceptional was the breakfast. Though Nicola offers his guests an on-demand breakfast time with preference of coffees, the arrangement is somewhat plain. As long as your expectations are not of broad variety, then this too is a very pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Tower room if you can climb spiral stair cases. A must.

We'd spent 3 nights in this wonderfull castle at the very begining of May and are absolutely happy with this experience. It's a real castle with nice territory with olive trees, flowers and wineyards. We had a room with 360 view and it was increadible, cause from one window we could look over Siena, from the other - on classic tuscany landscapes, from the third - on the estate. This room has many very narrow stairs, that should be taken into account. On the first floor there is a bathroom, wardrobe and frifge. On the upper floor there's just sleeping place and 2 nice chairs for relaxing while enjoying the view. Due to many windows the room is well conditioned and because of the surroundings it was very quite, so sleeping there was great and every morning we were waken up with the smell of baking croissants. Breakfast was very nice. Special thanks to Nicola, owner of the estate. He made our stay with his carefull attention and advices (even on when to watch a footbal games). I am absolutely sure that on my next trip to Siena I'll choose Castello for the stay.
