This place felt like a home away from home, because the owners are so down to earth and welcoming. We stayed in the rooms with shared bath and had 2 bedrooms for 4 people. No one else was on that floor because the owners knew we were travelling together, so it was like they "gave" us a whole apartment to have all to ourselves! The rooms are huge but fairly basic. I found the bed way too hard, unfortunately. It was sometimes very noisy due to its location right near Il Campo but that is also one of the best things about it -- being so close to where the action is in Siena. Siena is magical (maybe overly boutiquey) for just walking everywhere and this is a great location if you want to be in the heart of town. It's a good value too.

We have just recently come back from two nights stay at Palazzo Masi in Siena. We booked Palazzo Masi through Venere (great site) and corresponded prior to our leaving with Daniela through email. We had hired a car and choose to drive to the Masi's front door to drop off our luggage. Daniela gave us great instructions and she met us (after ringing her) outside the front door and made us feel very welcome. There are stairs that need to be climbed (very doable) and then we were taken to our room. We had a superior room with an ensuite and a window looking out onto the road. It was a comfortable room and we slept well with the window closed. The breakfast is most sufficient and good value for money (comparative to other breakfasts we had at different places on the same trip). And the location was brilliant! We felt like we were in the middle of it all... Daniela and her husband were very welcoming, made us lovely cappuccinos for breakfast and gave us ideas for restaurants and such. We are also very thankful to Daniela for helping us out of a problem of our own making. Thank you Daniela!

Great location in the heart of Siena... literally a few yards to Il Campo on a winding cobble stone street. More than adequate for us (married couple). Room was large and clean; detached private bathroom was the same.
Note that the owner does not reside at the property so you have to call her when you arrive in town -- a bit of an inconvenience.
No air conditioning as the building is many hundreds of years old but we were there in June and it was not an issue.
Again, the location cannot be beat -- right in the heart of Siena. The owner was very helpful as well.

I loved the location of Palazzo Masi. It's just steps away from the Il Campo piazza and all its hustle and bustle. Other Siena attractions like the Duomo or just just some great shopping are also just steps away.

The downside to being so close to everything and having a corner room with two windows that we needed to keep open due to warm nights was that it could be fairly noisy. You just have to expect this in this location.

You also can't expect to park a car right next door. We actually parked a few blocks away in the Il Campo parking garage and hoofed in what we needed. If you want to brave the streets you could also drive up to the door and leave your stuff and then park elsewhere. We opted not to hassle with driving in any further.

Count on carrying your stuff up a few flights. I didn't see any elevator.

Our room could best be described as fairly spartan. Just a bed, a desk, a tv and a place to hang clothes. No other chairs, tables, or things like a minibar or fridge. It was just comfortable place to hang your hat at the end of the day and hit the sack.

Bathroom in our case was down the hall, but otherwise a private bathroom. Clean and spacious though towels, though clean, were worn to the point of needing to be replaced.

4 keys to navigate our way around the place. One to enter the building downstairs, one to enter Palazzo Masi upstairs, one to enter your room and one for the separate bathroom. No problem with that but just something to keep in mind - this isn't an ordinary hotel.

All in all, a great place to stay in Siena.

After coming home from our trip to Siena, my husband and I loaded up the photos on our computer and took a wonderful journey through our images of the trip. Yes, the churches were beautiful and the countryside breathtaking … but what brought the biggest smiles to our faces were the pictures of the wonderful people we met on our two week visit to Italy. Daniela and Alizzardo, the proprietors of Palazzo Masi (PM), were two of those people.

When we got to PM, we felt as if we were being welcomed to Siena by relatives – good relatives – the kind you WANT to see. Daniela is filled with useful advise and suggestions for taking advantage of Sienna’s wealth of history and beauty. Her enthusiasm is catchy and Allisardo’s kindness and calm manner were comforting. While Daniela and Alizzardo are not on the premises all day, we met with them in the mornings and called her when we needed certain information. Without going into details, they went above and beyond their role as proprietors to help us out of a sticky situation and for that we will be forever be grateful.

PM is 2 and 3 flights up in a restored medieval building so if you cannot climb stairs, you’ll just have to miss getting to know these two people. But if you are like me – healthy enough to climb some stairs (visiting italy's charming hill towns is all about walking and climbing!) and actually enjoy being active, then staying at PM will be no problem. Daniela and Alizzardo will offer to help carry up your luggage – with a smile - when you arrive.

If you are looking for a bustling hotel atmosphere, you might want to try a more expensive place. We were comfortable with PM’s low key atmosphere which made us feel as if we were one of the residents in the building. Our room had a private toilet but a shared shower. That worked fine for us. Our room was clean and well taken care of. Our room was made up every day.

We opted out of eating at PM. We chose, instead, to mix and match our breakfasts. We went to the local grocery store to purchase yogurt and fruit and to the nearby Bar (a place that serves sandwiches, pastries, coffee and sometimes yummy gelato) to get a sandwich and coffee. Then we’d either find a place to sit outside and watch the world go by or enjoy the comfort of a table at the Bar. We became “regulars” at the grocery store and the Bar and got to know the servers and checkers enough so that we received a friendly greeting every morning. It made us feel less like a tourist doing those things.

And finally, as far as location goes, PM can't be beat. It's right where you would want to be ... a hop, skip and a jump from the piazza, which is the heartbeat of the city. We definitely recommend Palazzo Masi as a fine place to stay in beautiful Siena.

A general suggestion to all travelers is to bring, to any country you visit in the hot summer months, a small battery operated fan. We found it useful in our travels here in Italy.

I have just returned from a tour of italy from venice down to palermo. We stayed in siena at Plazzo Masi and had a wonderful experience. I don't stay in hotels and rent apartments as a rule , but this place is ideally situated 1 minutes safe walk at night to the il campo.
The room was spacious clean with bathroom a superior triple with a great view across the countryside. We arrived by train and took a Taxi to the B&B which was 6 euro's the bus was 1 euro and left every 30mins . Daniella was very helpful and we opted to pay the 7 euro's extra each for breakfast which consisted of cereal, toasted sandwiches, yogurt,
pastries, tea , coffee ,and fruit juice. this was excellent value for money. The B&B was in a well lit street just off from the il campo an excellent position, as people stay in the main square until about 3am and the hotels here would most definetly suffer with noise.
When i return to siena i will most definetly be stopping here again
