“Excellent Stay - Perfect B&B”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

The most amazing experience and wonderful B&B, beautiful views, very friendly and helpful staff, good sized pool, a good breakfast and perfect location. My wife and I stayed here for 8 nights in total during our tour around Tuscany, frankly this was our best stay, just outside of the hustle of Siena but a quick and easy 5min drive or 15-20min bus ride into town. Roberto was very helpful even on our last day he took us to Euorpcar to collect our hire car as I didn’t know where it was which we are very grateful for. We were able to bring our own lunch / dinner / wines, free use of a fridge (Warning: we found that not many B&B / Hotels allowed use of a fridge during our stay around Tuscany). The B&B has fresh fruit trees where the owners welcome you to help yourself too. A wonderful stay I would be more than happy to stay again in the future.

Room Tip: If you can get a top floor room facing the rear of the building there are fantastic views.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in the heat of mid-July. The reviews of this place are all accurate . . . beautiful grounds, friendly and accommodating owners, and near Siena. But, upon arrival, we were somewhat dissappointed by what we found in the hotel's location. This is far enough away from the attractions of Siena to require either a drive (about 10 or 15 minutes, if you know where you're going and don't get lost) or bus, but not far enough away to feel as if you're in the Tuscan countryside, which was sort of disappointing for us.

GETTING THERE: Using the hotel's address in the GPS led us right to the main gate of the facility, but to get there, you drive through a very modern residential neighborhood in the suburbs of Siena, complete with tall apartment buildings. It certainly was safe and fine, but just not the romantic view of Siena we had imagined in our minds before arriving.

THE GROUNDS: The grounds and buildings are all well kept, clean, and very pretty. The pool, which we used a couple of times, was a nice, refreshing treat after long, hot days of touring. It was also little used, and we had it all to ourselves for some time. The family keeps an abundance of fruit trees, which you are welcome to pick from and eat as you like. There is a pretty view of the countryside from the pool, but not one of Siena. What is evident from the property is the noise from the highway below. Not enough of an issue to disturb sleeping, but another subtle reminder that you're in the suburbs and not the countryside.

THE ROOM: The room was adequate, basic and clean. We chose the room on the first floor with the bathroom in the hall, and travelers should note that the bathroom is your own with a key that is given to you (not shared), but it's located just outside the bedroom door. It was not an issue for us. There was no air conditioning (only an oscillating fan), which we knew at time of booking, and this also was not an issue for us, since we were only there at night to sleep, after the heat of the day had passed. One thing, however, that would have made our stay better would be screens on the windows. We didn't open the windows while we were sleeping to keep the mosquitos out, and we would have appreciated some fresh air. Also, there were no toiletries provided (only a hair dryer), so you'll need to bring your own. And, there is no in-room safe; we didn't have an issue, and felt very safe at the facility, but I just let people know. The bed was comfortable, but the room overall was pretty small and kind of dark -- only 2 small windows.

THE BREAKFAST: The breakfast, served from 8:00 - 9:30 am, was basic and good. There was your regular assortment of meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, yogurts, and sometimes hard-boiled eggs. Cappucino and coffee is made to order. The breakfast is adequate and filling, but nothing to write home about.

OTHER INFO: We stumbled upon the best bargain of our trip while we were leaving . . . at the local supermarket near the bed and breakfast, you can purchase (6) 1-1/2 liter bottles of water for only 1 Euro! This was a bargain, considering that we were purchasing (1) bottle for 1.50 Euro in town. Stock up before you go! The local pizzeria serves really great pizza (identified on the hand-drawn map given to guests of the hotel). Also, as the hotel is set on a fairly steep hillside, this might not be a good choice for people with disabilities. The slope would prove difficult for some to walk, and the stones are slippery for even those without issues.

All in all, this was an okay stay. Not excellent, but not terrible - just average. On our next trip, I would probably choose to give another location a try.

We are pleased that we randomly found Casale Virgil. We remained two days and this was the best day throughout the week we spent in Tuscany. Very friendly people, especially Roberto, who is always willing to help and advise us. Nice clean rooms, beautiful surroundings, swimming pool, beautiful view. Very nice breakfast and wine in their cellar. Recommended for those who want a pleasant and peaceful environment in the immediate vicinity of the city and highway. Good starting point for visiting Tuscany. Our next visit to Tuscany will surely spend there.

This is the second time that my husband and I have stayed at this B and B. What a lovely spot. We stayed in the apartment this time as we were there for seven nights. We used this area to spoke out to the rest of Tuscany. The area is great because it is close to the majoy highways with easy access. The apartment is very nice and extremely clean. Roberto and all the staff are excellent. All are willing to accomodate and nothing is a problem. I highly recommend this B and B to anyone that would like a quiet, restful sojurn after a busy day sight seeing.

We found this B&B late in the day on our way to Sienna and Florence. The location and buildings are beautiful. The owners are kind and accommodating, and fun. I want to visit again.

This was a real find and I'm so glad we were able to stay here for 2 nights. It was a short drive from the main city centre, a little difficult to find but we did eventually see that was a sign on the main road. it had a great view of the outskirts of town, a beautiful pool that was wonderful as the temperature was in the 30's! Breakfast was really nice and the room was a good enough size, quiet and comfortable. no A/C but we were ok at night as the temp dropped. Only other thing was the highway was so close and a bit noisy but it wasn't a big deal and you couldn't hear it in the room. I would definitely recommend staying here, I wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: The room we had was in an apartment of 3 rooms, a living and dining area and a kitchen that could be...

Very friendly and helpful owners. Perfect location, close to the city centre of Siena, with a beautiful view over the Tuscany hills. Basic hotel room, but perfect and clean. Beautiful swimming pool. Several seats and tables outside in the garden. Also a perfect location to stay with more friends.
