So glad we visited the historical centre of Siena, full of history and places to see, it's a wow and candy for the eyes at every corner, a must see when in Tuscany

Visting Siena is a must when in Tuscany! The old city with it's narrow, and somewhere very steep, cobblestone streets can be a challenge for disabled, but it is very much worth a visit. While strolling along, try to look for the 17 contrada's and their unique seals, used in the bi-annual Palio-race around Piazzia del Campo (2 July and 16 Aug each year) Even after several visits to Siena, you can discover small passageways and streets. Also, admire the impressive churches and towers, cross the Piazza del Campo or find breathtaking views of the landscape from citiwalls or atop the tower in Torre del Mangia. As a Dane, it is a fun fact to know this tower/city hall was the inspiration for the city hall in Copenhagen (my country's capital). Treat yourself to some of the best ice cream in all of Italy while resting your feet on the pavement of del Campo - laid back in 1347!!

Less people more atmosphere, that is Siena compared to nearby Florence. Even during the Palio it was delightful to wander these streets and soak in the atmosphere of days gone by. These avenues have not changed in centuries; narrow winding passages, sights and sounds all make up a wonderful place to take a couple of days away from the 'real world'. Although during the Palio and the three days lead up inter-district rivalry (there are 17 districts) is evident in the singing and 'flag' waving that goes on. A fun filled event over 500 years old.

Very nice place to visit. You need only 2 days to spend in Siena. You can see everything.
You can not park your car in the historic center. They have cameras and you will pay 300 euros fine. So better to park around the stadium of Siena. Be careful and there some days you can't park too.

Siena is one of the Italian towns one must see. I even preferred its historic city centre to Florence. It's beautiful and charming, full of beautiful buildings, many pedestrian streets and loads of both sights and restaurants/cafes.
