“Our "home" in Tuscany”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

We spent a wonderful week at Borgo Grondaie in the Garden 1 apartment. This is a one-bedroom/bath with a small kitchen and living room that very comfortably sleeps 2 or 3. The staff are all extremely warm, welcoming and helpful for day-trip ideas and directions.

We had a rental car so the free parking was a huge plus over other places we'd researched in town. Between the car and the train station just down the hill, we were set for transportation... even a day trip or two to Florence. The old part of Siena isn't that far, especially if one makes use of the escalators from the train station and mall (check open hours). It probably takes a total of 20 minutes to El Campo if you don't window shop or get lost :)

This is a great place to stay if you are in Siena with a car, extremely easy access off the Autostrada. Takes 30 mins to walk & catch & arrive in the centre of Siena. Sometimes less (buy bus tkt from reception). The staff were extremely helpful including with ideas for day trips, (Castellina in Chianti, Rada (well worth a day on the backroads) - San Gimignano (beautiful but very touristy, we went on the bus & no hassles). The place is pretty, it has a huge CO-OP supermarket at the bottom of the (small) hill for your self-catering......everything we had hoped for in/near a city in Tuscany.

  • Liked — Such a friendly & helpful place.

Comfortable, beautiful, a nice pool, laundry facilities, easy...just a great experience. There were 7 of us and we have 2 apartments back to back near the pool, kids LOVED it (ages 14, 12, 9, 5). Convenient for touring Tuscany.

Not near town but an easy taxi ride to downtown. Gaia was extremely accommodating and even helped us get some laundry done.
The room was very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was terrific.
There were also some tables outside to sit and eat and we ordered a pizza one night and ate outside.
There is a very short walk down the road to a large supermarket (COOP) where we bought some items.
Free wi-fi was great. Also enjoyed the small bar near the breakfast area.
The area was very peaceful & quiet.
We had a very comfortable stay and due to the warm & friendly staff we would stay here again.

Another hotel we had a few worries about after reading the reviews but it seemed to suit our needs so we went ahead and booked it. Tricky, yet so easy to find, you pass the station on your right then take the second right at the roundabout keeping the Co-op on your left then follow the road up to the hotel. What a great spot with lovely grounds and lots of parking. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Loved the setup with rooms in different buildings. We were in the villa and our room was very nice as was the bathroom and a reasonable size. Loved the pool although unfortunately didn't have the opportunity to use it and the grounds were lovely too. The laundromat was a big plus as we were on a long road trip. Breakfast was very good and it was nice to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet. We like to park the car in hotels and walk or take public transport so this was perfect. Walk to town was very pleasant going back past the Co-op then across the bridge towards the station then into the shopping mall and take the escalators and moving walkways up to the town centre. From there it's a short walk to get inside the walls and from there you're able to walk all over the old town, perfect and good exercise after a long drive. Would definitely recommend this hotel as a great spot to stay in Siena especially if you have a car.

4 of us (plus a baby) stayed here in 2 separate rooms for two nights in August, 2012. A lot of people have moaned about the location, but it was made clear to us before we booked that the hotel wasn't in the old town so we understood that.
The hotel room was a little small but clean and the bed was very comfortable. The grounds are really nice, lots of grass where you can have a rest without being disturbed. The pool isn't so big but we liked the salt water. There are facilities to wash your own clothes which was good for us, plus ample space to hang. The breakfast was plentiful.
There is lots of room to eat your own food / have a picnic.
We walked to the very close supermarket and bought some amazing pizza's, meats, cheeses, breads and pickled items. With having a young baby, we took a break from the restaurants and had a self-made meal which was wonderful. This was also a great way to save some money after an expensive few weeks.
One of the other best things about the hotel was the dark-skinned porter who I saw doing a million jobs at the same time, always with a smile on his face. I hope your employers appreciate how hard you work!

Having never stayed in self catering we did not know what to expect from this property. We had an apartment for 2 which included a kitchenette (very well equipped), dining/sitting area, huge bedroom and bathroom - all spotless and with excellent air-con (perfect in the middle of July)
Do not let the approach to the hotel (through a supermarket carpark) or the nearby train station put you off - the property is surrounded by trees and very quiet. Plus you only have 2 minutes walk to the co-op to stock up on supplies.
The pool area is lovely, in the middle of the garden, with plenty of sun beds - all very clean. We did not have breakfast as we had purchased loads of scrummy Italian delicacies but all the other guests said it was outstanding (and not expensive). The are clothes washing facilities available for a couple of euros which as newbies to self catering we thought was wonderful. There are drinks available from the bar (very reasonable prices) and you can also use the free wifi there.
Siena is a short walk (up a very big hill!) or a 2 minute drive - we drove! And there are plenty of other fantastic sights to visit, all within a short distance.

A brilliant place to stay with very friendly and helpful staff. We can't wait to visit again.
