“Great paintings”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

Great paintings, even if the authors are less known than Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Rafael etc. Definitely worth the visit!

“Madonna and baby central”
Reviewed July 4, 2012

A reasonable museum to pass away a couple of hours. Be aware that you are restricted to certain floors at certain times, so best arrive on the hour. Take some id as you can't take your bags in and they must be left in a locket with your id as deposit.
If you don't like Madonna and child art, then this won't be for you as there is a bewildering array of this type of painting - all very beautiful but gets a bit tedious.

“Unique Collection of the Madonnas”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

This museum has an astounding collection of paintings of the Madonna from the Mid-eval period onwards. For me, encountering this images changed my view of history and (perhaps limitedly so) the role of woman throughout various periods. It also made for an interesting conversation on Italy and "race" since you can see a distinct change in the skin tone of the portraits painted sometime after the Florentines conquered Siena in 1445.

“Love this period of painting!!”
Reviewed April 28, 2012

The collection is impressive. There is a quality of imagination to this work that is very moving. The religious narrative aside - these artists conjured images to describe visually what no one had actually ever seen - and located these acts of the imaginative within their contemporary world.
