“the garden and its view are worth the stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

We have stayed jus for one night at Santa Caterina during our trip to Tuscany. The room and bathroom were very spacious even to fit a baby cot (we were traveling with our two year old son). The hotel is well located outside city walls but you can walk to major site, although it is a walk up the hill. The best thing in the hotel, though, is the garden and its view of tuscan cowntryside. We had breakfast at a table and stayed there almost the whole morning just enjoying the "dolce fa niente", while our son played with rocks and flowers. I would definetly come back for more days because it is a great base point to explore Tuscany by car. They have a parking lot behind the hotel where you can leave your rental for a fee of ten euros a day.

Room Tip: room number 2 was in the ground floor with a view of the garden, very spacious

This is one of those hotels that just grows on you. It is full of character, the breakfast room is lovely and the garden also a delight to spend time in.
Our room also had character and even though we faced the road there was little noise.
The hotel is opposite the city gate which gives a convenient 15 minute walk to the town centre although we were told there is also a regular bus to catch if you prefer.
We loved Siena and want to return, and of course our preferred hotel will be Santa Caterina.
P.S. We drove our own car and although the free parking is a little tight, the consierge looked after the vehicle all the time we were there. Good team work and smiley faces.

Stayed at the Hotel Santa Caterina Siena with my 2 daughters in June 2013. The hotel was just what we wanted for 1 night. The staff very helpful and breakfast was very good outside in the patio garden. It is situated within easy walking distant to the main attractions of Siena.

OUr group of 6 stayed here in late May 2013. We arranged for a spot for our van ahead of time and I'd recommend that if you have a car, parking is limited. The hotel is on a busy corner but it was a non issue, no problem with noise from the street. The gate to the city is very close by , a 5 min.l walk and about a 10 -15 min. walk to Il Campo so very easy to go to town for dinner and shopping. The hotel staff at breakfast was limited but very efficient serving coffee, espresso, etc. and a good variety of meats, cheese, pastries, cereal from the buffet. There is a lovely courtyard just outside the reception area and breakfast room. Unfortunately our weather didn't cooperate but we bundled up and had a happy hour there both nights. The views of the Tuscan hillside from the garden were spectacular and breathtaking. Our room had a small balcony which overlooked the same view, incredible. The rooms were typical European , small but functional, no issues with the room. I'd stay here again on my next trip to Siena.

Hotel Santa Caterina was a perfect choice for my one-week stay in Siena.

The hotel itself — the lobby, bar, and breakfast room — is lovely and inviting. The outdoor breakfast area, which offers a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside, is a perfect spot to relax after a full day in the city or after a day trip to a nearby Tuscan hill town. The breakfast itself offers everything you might want to begin your day. The staff members are uniformly helpful, no matter what hour you might ply them with questions or request help. I've been traveling solo in Europe almost every year for the past 15 years, and I can say unequivocally that the staff at Hotel Santa Caterina provided unsurpassed service and support.

My room was remarkably quiet. Actually, incredibly quiet. I didn't hear a sound at night, maklng a full-night's rest easy. The mini-bar was well-stocked, with the items fairly priced. The bathroom was modern and immaculate, and the towels were full and plentiful, something other hotels might learn from.

The hotel is about 100 yards down from the Porta Romana entrance to the old city, or about a 15-minute walk to the Campo. I enjoyed the walk and found it an invigorating way to begin my day.

If I'm ever lucky enough to visit Siena again, I will certainly choose Hotel Santa Caterina once again without hesitation.

Excellent service, crew and location. This hotel offers an excellent option to those travelers who want to enjoy the beauty of Siena; perfectly located at the "Porta Di Roma" (Roman Gate) allows you to start your trip from the most beautiful angle.

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel..Our room was kind of cool (a loft style), and per our request, it was facing the garden. Nothing beats a Tuscany view when you wake up in the morning.
Great location - I really don't understand the complain about the distance...15 minutes walk from the "Il Campo" is not far for me. But hey, both my partner and I are runners, so walking is enjoyable. A very nice breakfast, with the best coffee we had in Italy.
The staff at this hotel is superb. They are so friendly and polite. The younger kid who works there is just the nicest. We ran into him one night as we were coming back to the hotel one night, and we just stood outside chatting for over an hour.
We totally recommend this place, and will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Send them a message and ask for a "garden view"
