“Beautiful and Friendly!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

We stayed in the Hotel Santa Caterina from July 27-July 30th. My husband and I decided to travel through Italy after accompanying our daughter to Siena. She was taking a summer course through the University of Toronto and so only my husband and I stayed here. At first, I was very surprised by how tiny the room was but the view from breakfast area and the friendliness of the staff more than made up for the tiny room. It is a wonderful place to stay! I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the back so that it is quieter.

This hotel is situated at the corner of a somewhat busy intersection but you feel like you're miles away from traffic when you sit outside on the terrace. Ask for a room on the garden side of the hotel. The views of the Tuscan valley are beautiful and it's so quiet. The hotel staff was amazingly helpful and friendly. Siena is a quaint town which is an easy walk from the hotel. We found taxis right outside the train station and the drive to the hotel took about 10-15 min.

I stayed by myself at this cute little hotel while backpacking through Europe. I did splurge on the price here as I had a hard time finding my price range in Siena and I'm so glad I did. The staff was so amazing, friendly and helpful. It is a walk to the center, but a straight shot and good exercise. I went on a wine tour recommended by the hotel and made great friends who I am still keeping in touch with. The recommended wonderful restaurants and the breakfast served was really good. My room was pretty small, but still beautiful and perfect for just me and the view was gorgeous. I would love to visit here again!

Room Tip: I asked for a room with a view of the valley and it was gorgeous.

the hotel itself is so picturesque and charming. it makes you feel at home and the view from the garden takes your breath away. the staff are freindly and helpful, often going beyond just the line of duty in ensuring every comfort and query is met. the srtategic location certainly made for interesting, explorative walks into the old town withing the city walls. over all, a memorable, thoroughly enjoyable stay!

This is a lovely little hotel set in a small garden. The staff was most welcoming and kind. Sitting in the garden was enjoyable and peaceful. Bathrooms are tiny but that is typical in a very old structure. Would certainly stay here again.

Just back from our trip to Italy,... this hotel was certainly a nice surprise! The front desk staff especially Lucio, were extremely helpful and kind. The location was perfect for touring Siena, just outside the city wall and a pleasant 10 minute walk to the main square. The lobby, halls and rear gardens were beautiful. Delicious breakfast and great cappuccino is served by friendly staff in the courtyard, with a spectacular view. Pleasant to sit out at night and discuss the days events over a bottle of wine. Our group stayed in two quads each with a loft. The only negative was they were a little dated, with some of the single beds having thin mattresses that could use updating. Otherwise would be rated 5 stars by our group. The rooms were very clean. Would stay here again, since we loved Siena and the hotel makes a great base for Tuscany day trips.

The hotel Santa Catarina is a three-star hotel that stands out because of the beautiful view it commands.

Siena, for all its beauty, is a fortress town with little greenery or open space. The view from a hotel window is likely to be one of more brick. The Santa Catarina is just outside the city walls (near Porta Romana) and allows a breath of fresh air. Its terrace, where guests can take breakfast, looks out over the beautiful Tuscan countryside for miles around.

From the hotel it takes a 10-15 minute walk to the Casa del Campo, the heart of the town. A little supermarket and some restaurants are along the way. Getting there on foot from the train or bus station would take half an hour, so a taxi is advised. Access by car is easy compared to the hotels within the city walls.

The rooms are small- to medium-sized, with a good airconditioning and bathroom, as well as free Wifi. Rooms at the back are larger and have a view. Service is friendly and attentive. The breakfast consists of a small but good buffet.

The rooms and service of the Santa Catarina rise above the level of the average three-star. The terrace with the view is a superb bonus.
