“room 214”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

don't take room 214 no view cant open shutters of windows unless you like to be looked at constantly , so noisy you cant get to sleep because of the noise from houses across from you and rooms above and next door , plumbing wakes you every time anyone uses toilet near you as the sound of the flush is deafening , feel sorry for the breakfast staff who work their butts off but if you don't go close to 7.30 or so there isn't much left after that yogurt always first to go it seems shame as well as hotel seemed ok but the room was dirty and I was in perpetual darkness as I couldn't open window at all. I arrived awaiting this bell boy id heard of and all I got was a huge heavy key tossed down by a balding receptionist and told room was on first floor after a bit of a wander about I found it would never go back usually go to Hotel il Giardino or Hotel Athena when I am in Siena

Room Tip: say no to room 214!

Dear guest,
I'm sorry for your bad experience, but I remind you that you reserved an economy room, that is cheaper than the other rooms because it does not have any view. Either in expedia or Booking there are photos of the economy room, so that the guests do not have expectation for the view on the city.
so next time, if you weant the view and a more confortable room I wrmly recommend you to book a standard or a Superior room.
Kind regards from Hotel Minerva

As this hotel was booked by a company as part of a bike tour, as with the other hotels we stayed at, I think this was taken advantage of and they rightly assumed that we would be too tired from the cycling to complain about the room.
On the good side: The room was large and quite clean, it was only 20mins walk to town, and there was parking for €12 euros a day. On the downside 2 of the 4 receptionists we came into contact with we're pretty grumpy (one probably daren't look us in the eye or smile as he knew what a rubbish room he was giving us), the room looked into a roof with a screaming family in residence opposite, the shower was slimy on the floor, and the bathroom window didnt close and there was paint missing. The two women running the breakfast room were working really hard to keep up with everyone, but clearly needed more help to get out the coffees, restock the buffet, and tidy up.
Overpriced for what you get.

Dear guest,

thank you for the commentary. The majority of our rooms have a view on the olkd town, but not all of course. Some have another building in front.
For the painting which was missing in some points, it was because we just had changed the hairdryer and was not possible to have the paqinter on the same day.
As for the shower the architect decided that was nicer in that way, then it depends on the tastge of everyone: not all the people like the same things.
Kind regards from Hotel Minerva.

We were on a mission to find a certain 4star hotel in Siena and got frustrated by our GPS. Deciding to take the next hotel we came to - Minerva was it. We were reluctant since it did not look lavish from the front. It is a little gem within walking distance to Centro, the train station and a whole bunch of fabulous restaurants. The bathrooms are clean and fresh, the rooms spacious and the windows open to fresh air. The breakfast was as good as some 5 stars. It cost the same for 3 nights as 1 night at the one we were searching for.

Room Tip: We were on lower level - beautiful view but the wifi wouldn't work on that level. Who cares. We...

Found this hotel though tripadvisor and I must say the place has lived up to my expectations. The location is good, just a 10 minute walk to the beginning of the nice part of Sienna, then a 20 minute stroll to Piazza del Campo. The rooms are small and a bit austere, but clean and have all basic comforts (as for every 3 star hotel in Italy). Breakfast was nice, continental and north-american style. The hotel has a nearby garage where guests can park for an additional 12 euros/day. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel, I would gladly come back.

The hotel delivers what you'd expect form the price/quality ratio. It's a basic, clean room which is all you need if you're planning to visit Siena during the day and simply relax/sleep in your room. The breakfast was the same way; simple, yet all you'd expect/need for the price. A big plus is the great location, it's a short walk away from the historical city center, yet far away enough to be at peace.

Overall, a very nice place to stay. I've been to Siena before so was a bit bummed to find that, although inside the city walls, it was about a 15 minute walk to Siena's Campo. (normally this wouldn't bother me, but we visited in August, so those 15 minutes in the sun were long!) That said, the receptionists were friendly, there was a computer for guests to use, the room was clean and very large, air-conditioning throughout the room and hotel (huge plus during scorching weather), and a great buffet breakfast spread (fruits, cereal, pasteries, coffee, juice). I was also surprised to see how many guests were staying at the hotel because I hardly heard any noise while in our room.

A wrong turn on the way to our preferred hotel brought us in front of Hotel Minerva and a rarity in old cities, an empty parking spot. Upon entry into the lobby, we were welcomed by the friendliest receptionist, fluent in English, who sold us in no time on to staying here within walking distance of the center of old Siena. Free curbside parking is available in front of the hotel, and for a fee one can park in the underground hotel garage.

The 3-star Hotel Minerva is an older property, updated throughout, and spotlessly clean. White washed walls without much of any decoration give the public spaces a somewhat stark, sterile appearance. There is no restaurant on site, yet eating places are within a block of the hotel. A large breakfast spread is served in the bright former restaurant on the ground floor.

A bellman assisted us with the luggage to our room on an upper floor. The room had a stone tile floor, which may transmit footfalls and chair moving to the room below, however, noise was absolutely no issue for us - it was quiet at night. A queen bed and basic furnishings, incl. a fridge, and a wall mounted Euro-type wall A/C with remote control rounded out the appointments. A minor irritant was that the box springs of the bed made noises with each body movement. The room was spotless, as was the tiled modern bathroom. Facing the back, our room was shielded from potential traffic noise out front, but the real bonus was the view over the old roofs of Siena to the cupola of the Duomo and to the massive San Francisco Basilica.

Walking into the center of Old Town is but a ten to 15 minute walk, but the first part is uphill. We chose to take a taxi to the Duomo, exploring the center from there, and then comfortably walking down hill back to the hotel.

All in all, the Hotel Minerva is well situated inside the city walls with clean, albeit spartan, accommodations for a decent price. It offers a convenient base from which to explore Siena. We would certainly not hesitate to stay here again.
