“Hotel Chiusarelli is a complete gem of a hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2010

We booked this hotel before reading old reviews on Trip Advisor but decided, given the time of year, to stick with our choice and we were not at all disappointed. Our room in this beautifully renovated hotel was exquisite with particularly comfortable beds and breakfast was served in the charming conservatory. The plentiful staff were, without exception, friendly and offered helpful suggestions of how to spend our time here in Tuscany. In terms of location, Hotel Chiusarelli could not be better situated - 5 minutes to the Duomo, less than 10 to Il Campo and possibly the best pizzeria ever (yes, really) just across the road! Perhaps the only minor drawback is the lack of lifts in the hotel which did not inconvenience us but might be more of an issue for those unable to walk up the stairs. But, if this is not an issue for you, we would highly recommend it.

We were really impressed with Hotel Chiusarelli. It was a really easy location to get to, only about 3 minutes from the bus station, and the hotel was really quiet too. Our room was big compared to other similarly priced hotels in Italy we stayed in during our trip. We even had a large balcony which was great for having lunch or a drink and snack in the afternoon. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom modern. The croissants at breakfast were excellent and there was a good range of food. My husband didn’t think the espresso from the machine was particularly good, but I thought my cappucino was fine. It was only a five minute walk to the main piazza. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel.

We arrived by car without a reservation and were welcomed graciously by Barbara at the front desk. She gave us a first-floor room, suggested places for free parking and wonderful restaurants within walking, and was immensely personable. She's a gem.

We were exhausted and chose to eat in the hotel restaurant the first night. We found it very good, particularly the house red wine. Breakfast was outstanding each day.

The hotel is a bit noisy with its tile floors and church bells chiming at 7:00 am. The cleaning staff starts early, too. But we got a rate of 99 euros. The location to the sites of Siena is outstanding.

The Chiusarelli was steps away from the bus from Florence just when we needed an air conditioned room. The restaurant is good-but seemed to cater mostly to group tours. And there is so much amazing food in Siena that hotel dining is not recommended!!! Front desk staff helped us locate the wonderful nearby Enoteca, or wine tasting location, located a short walk away and one of the best experiences of our trip. Our clean sizable room was fine, but nothing exceptional. A better bang for the buck than central Siena. A walk to the campo takes about 10-15 minutes. The hotel is divided onto several levels and wings. Guests with mobility problems (OR lots of luggage!) will not enjoy the trip from front desk to room.

We were warned before our trip to Italy tht it was expensive - and indeed it is! But we struggled to find a fairly central hotel in any of the larger cities for under the 90 euro mark - only succeeding with an Ibis which was awful! So when we got a deal for 95 euros in Siena, for a double room, with breakfast and parking we lept at it. Parking has been a nightmare to overcome, so the fact it was central with parking was a plus for us.
Location wise the hotel is perfect, within a 1 minute walk of the post office square where you can enter the old town, and backing onto the football stadium - great if you like footie!
Value for money? well the room looked sad to say the least, and the heating was centrally run and extremely noisy - I always sleep with ear plugs in and could hear it thru them.
The bathroom had no shower curtains, so if you had a shower in the 'wet room' design the water went everywhere. The bath took forever to fill, so we ended up resorting to using the shower to fill it as the pressure was better.
Would I stay there again? I don't think so, not for that price. We toured all over the north of italy and most hotels we stayed in were around the 90-100 euro mark, but this was the poorest quality room.

I'm writing right now from a Chiusarelli room, using my 5 Euro for 3 hours Internet card. The hotel is expensive for what it delivers. To tell the truth, the only nice thing (if you're into football) is that we are practically inside Siena Calcio's Stadium. We had no help to climb with our luggage. The room isn't that bad, but there is nothing special in it. And we really couldn't say that the service is ok. Not a good experience at all.

Siena is a wonderful little town, that has more shade, is cooler and have better (more normal) prices than Rome, Florence, Pisa, Sorrento and Capri where we'd also stayed during this trip.

This hotel is far from the train station and we took a bus that stops right in front of the hotel. Not a big problem, just stop at the information booth at the terminal upon arrival. Two bus passes - 4 euro. Or take a taxi for 13-15 euros.

No elevator and lots of stairs, it's an old building. Our room was on the third floor, getting the luggage there was a challenge even with the front desk attendant helping us with one of the suitcases.

Room was nice, clean and spacious - no problems there. Bathroom - clean, bidet, shower, towels, everything one needs, no complaints.

Internet access - 5 euros for every three hours. You buy tokens at the front.

No fridge in the room - big minus. Cannot bring water or a sandwich in the room because of it.

Mattresses are stiff like in all other small hotels we've stayed in. Pillows are stiff as well.

Breakfast (included int he price of the room) was nice, no complaints. Juice, coffee, cereals, milk, fruit, boiled eggs. Having to eat ther for a week might feel a bit different, but we'd only stayed there for two nights.

Location is convenient. We walked everywhere, but beware of the slopes. Siena is situated on the hills separated by the valleys. It's beautiful, but you will get tired walking.

Getrting to the train station early in the morning was by taxi, so 15 euros did the trick.

Nice restaurant on the corner across teh street from teh hotel. Tiramisu was good ike nowhere else.

Overall, a solid average quality accommodation with a couple of reservations. Nothing could be done about the elvator, I believe, but adding a fridge to the room would be definitely welcomed by travellers. We, probably, wouldn't stay ther again because of this.
