To be in Siena and the same timers stay at this Hotel - a perfect stay!
Wenn man in Siena spüren möchte und sich leisten kann, sollte man in diesem Hotel schlafen.
Without spa and coffee in the room... But believe me maybe you miss all this for few minutes, i did it, After I was in this huge and great hotel - I forgot everything!!
Great place to stay! We enjoyed to much!

We drove around for 30 minutes, finally parked the car and walked to the square to find the hotel. We were told at the desk that the roads are restricted and that you need a special pass to come in some special back way. The sent a bellman with us to drive our car to the hotel. You park in the busy main square, unload bags and then they charge $45 to valet your car. You have no other options. The hotel is old and semi updated. We had a top floor room with a balcony on the roof that overlooked the city. That was a bonus. But the room was tiny. Our friends were not as lucky and had a tiny first floor room that had an odor. Not a great stay. It is centrally located to be able to walk to the main sites of Siena, but I would explore an alternative for an overnight stay.

Room Tip: top floor if you still want to sty here

We chose this hotel purely for its location in the heart of Siena . My husband and I decided to take a train from Florence to Siena for a weekend getaway and chose the Grand Hotel so that we could walk to all the nearby Piazzo s . The area around the hotel is a car less are lined with little shops and boutiques and it's a two minute walk to the Duomo and the Piazza del Pallio where the famous horse race is held twice a year .

The hotel was originally built by a Pope for his nieces wedding ; and the frescoes on the ceiling are said to be original . The rooms , although spacious are very dark and gloomy and the bathrooms were tiny ! The tv should be in a museum ! It's the oldest one I've seen in years !!!!

In saying that , the hotel is old , and spacious , besides the old ballroom which has been converted into a salon and is beautiful , nothing else can be described as palatial !

The breakfasts were quite ordinary and the breakfast room again was dark and gloomy !

In the height of summer , a pool would have been wonderful !

If you are wanting to visit the nearby towns of San Gimignano and Montepulciano organise with the concierge ahead of time , as trains are few and unreliable and taxi s hardly exist in San Gimignano and no one here has heard of Uber !!!! You cannot hire a car on a Sunday .

If you are planning to visit churches , take a pashmina or shawl to cover your shoulders !

Really no excuse for a 5 star restaurant to go cheap on the food. This really spoil our stay. Concierge was helpful but didn't suggest the best restaurants. I don't think we will stay here again. Best part was location. "....stay 1 night if you must

This is the most deceiving hotel we have ever been to; we had 2 superior double rooms (room 438 and 227) and although different, both as bad as each other. We did complain to the GM and got a bottle of champagne (that we didn't drink) as a kind gesture!

-friendly staff (Elena from concierge)

-the rooms were dirty; walls, carpet etc (see pictures)
-water in the shower (bathtub) kept switching from hot to cold
-the 'king bed' was simply 2 beds put together (with no comforter on top)
-very hard beds/pillows were even worse
-slow internet connection
-tiny tv (size of a laptop)
-few plugs in the room didn't work
-very loud AC unit
-no sound insulation (difficult to sleep until 4am as the streets are very loud with blasting music, people etc)
-no turn down service one of the nights (we did not have a do not disturb sign)
-no complimentary drinking water
-at arrival noone helped with luggage
-horrible breakfast (no fruits, pre packed bread etc) we pre paid for this and didn't eat there once
