“Not a tower hotel”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

Town house, within Siena's fort walls converted to a hotel, not a tower hotel.
Very small rooms . We had room 126 which overlooks roof tops, it was ok.
Very Very small bathroom, no towels are given but rather large napkins towels.
No lifts lots of stairs so if you have knee or health problems be aware.
Breakfast was not good, in a cellar with no natural light and limited choice.
Great hotel if you are on a budget and don't mind the above things .

Room Tip: Room 126 has roof top views

In common with others on the Tripadvisor site, I was influenced by the Frommer recommendation and feel it over-rates this place considerably. For the money I paid, I found this hotel to be barely acceptable. However, Owner? receptionist? Patricia is pleasant and helpful. My main complaint is that a hotel (as opposed to a B/B) should have a reception service for more than just a few hours a day. This is not something I would generally be aware of, but as it was necessary for us to order a very early morning taxi to catch a bus (the only suitable one that day) for our flight, I was conscious that we could not get an early morning call/had no backup if we overslept....cue a sleepless night checking watch and mobile phone every few minutes. Overall I would describe this place as a good B/B (which makes it look expensive) but a disappointment as a hotel.

We stayed at this hotel during the Aug. Palio and it turned out fine. There are only 2 staff members and one lady that cleans the 8 or so rooms that they have. At the front desk, David (i think that was his name) is great. Speaks good english and will help you plan your day and tell you the best place to get a meal and even what to get.
This hotel has a 4 star rating but it is a 2 or 3 tops. There are only two rooms per floor and no lift. One room will have a view of an old and seldom used street and the backside rooms have a view of a courtyard that is filled with trash at the bottom and good views into peoples homes which would be great if your a closet vouyer.
Nice bathroom with Pierre Cardin tile but only room for one person at a time unless one is in the tiny shower. Rooms do have nice AC and TV and they are small (just like most rooms in Europe).
All in all, this hotel is a great deal and is only a 10 minute walk to Il Campo and there are numerous restaurants nearby and a grocery store just around the corner for a picnic lunch.
For more info on Siena in general and before you book your trop, look for our review on Piazzo Del Campo.

Room Tip: You only have two choices. Half the rooms look out on a old sleepy street with a bit of normal noise...

Nice location, nice rooms, good shower. No problems. Until you turn on the airco. (first you have to ask for the remote control at the reception. he smell of Smoke! So the choice was either too hot or too smelly. Bad night for us. Breakfast was great, a pity our host is a heavy smoker as well, so also the breakfast room was contaminated.

We picked this hotel on our trip around Italy, as a last minute change of plan, and we pleasantly surprised. Parking is an issue, and whilst we were told that parking was available,it was a good distance from the hotel - the trick is to unload the car first and drive off to find parking.

Our room was a good size, the decor a surprise, in a baroque sort of way. There was only a little street noise. The room was clean as was the bathroom, the bathroom was long a narrow but more than adequate.

The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the town square, perfect for a romantic glass of bubbly as the sun goes down. The hotel owner suggested a couple of restaurants, we chose the one near the central market, great food.

As an unplanned hotel, this was a lovely stay, the breakfast room a little odd, but interesting.

We stayed at Antica Torre for 2 nights in November. It's a little hard to find, but that's par for the course for most hotels inside the walled areas. The owner was very nice and we felt very welcome. The rooms are small but clean and adequate if you don't have lots of stuff with you. Parking is an issue because of parking regulations, you can drop off your stuff and then need to find a space outside the walls. The breakfast was fantastic, and we chatted with the owner for quite a while. Patricia is very nice, speaks English, and could not have been more helpful. We would defintely stay there again, and we found Siena completely charming.

I definitely won't easily forget this place. As far as rooms go in Italy, (And they're very different then ones in the US or Canada if you've never been to Italy) it's nothing particularly special. The decor is cute, but the bathroom is more like a closet, the TV has a hard time turning on, and you can hear construction (Actually, I'm pretty sure the whole country is under construction) and crows outside every morning. Oh, and don't forget that the locals don't go to sleep until around 2 in the morning. But besides all of that, you have to remember just how old this hotel is - and the staff are actually doing a pretty good job. The manager was very kind, and the people that you meet when you're having breakfast are some of the most delightful you'll have the pleasure to come across during your stay.
I'll conclude with this: If you want old style charm, stay here. If you want something a little more luxurious, then don't.
