“BIG Piazza”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2014

Wow..... BIG Piazza surrounded by lovely restaurants and shops. There is a huge clock tower located at Piazza del Campo.

Europe's greatest medieval squares where twice-a-year horse-race takes place.

“Piazza del Campo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

The very heart of the city of Siena, It's certainly on of the greatest medieval squares. It is shell shaped square with its center at its lowest point just beneath the magnificent tower called Torre del Mangia. The square is really unique and it is wonderful to see a number of people sitting down just on the ground enjoying the spectacular scene of the square itself. It's pretty hard to imagine that the traditional horse race is taking place here twice a year.

“Transported back to 12th century.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

If you're in Tuscany, do not pass up the opportunity to visit Siena! Like every hill town, there's an intense sense of history & legend, but there's also a constant buzz of life & activity. Unlike some hill towns, there are tourists everywhere (it was September). But this didn't bother us. We were in Siena for about 5 hours and I think that was adequate, although I would love to stay in the city next time. We sat at a cafe in the piazza under an umbrella people watching, eating pizza, taking in the scenery, listening to the bells chime, watching children chase birds...even though there were a lot of people, we were able to relax and enjoy the experience. We toured museums and cathedrals and bought a Made-in-Siena tie and scarf for our friends back home - the shopping was great. We grabbed some gelato later in the afternoon and made our way back to the piazza and sat on the ground to enjoy our treat in the sun. Great memories!

“Beautiful, Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

When we got to Sienna, we walked down a narrow alleyway which opened up into the Piazza del Campo, which was so beautiful. The piazza was surrounded by beautiful buildings reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet. The walk up to the cathedral through narrow, twisty medieval alleys was fascinating. This is a town I would love to go back to and stay a few nights to really savor the flavor of Sienna. The cathedral was impressive with so much detail on its exterior.

“Medieval square in La Toscana”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

Beautiful place to visit especially if you are touring the Tuscany area. Just 65 miles from Perugia and 40 from Florence. "The square of the field" is a meeting point for locals and tourists. In this magnificent medieval square is held once a year (August) a spectacular horse race known worldwide as "Il Palio di Siena" In this square is also located the "Fonte Gaia" (Fountain of Joy) You can found numerous ceramic shops, coffees and typical restaurants to enjoy a "Buona Pasta" and spend some time Under the Tuscany sun.
