This shell shaped piazza is beautiful and historic. Sienna's attempt to have a democratic (sort of) government is reflected in this huge piazza not attached to a cathedral or church, but rather a civic building. It was hot when we were there but we still sat in the campo and soaked in the history

Not a better place to soak up the Italian culture. The city and its people are so engaging. So genuine. So willing to accommodate people who visit their city. The Piazza at sundown every day is when it's at it's best. The smell of great coffee and fresh baked bread will leave a lasting impression.

This is quite literally the most amazing city square I have ever seen and just wish I could have been there on the Palio (horse racing) days they have in July and August every year. Would recommend a climb up the tower in the square for the best views.

After seeing almost every piazza in Italy you think you've seen them all? Certainly not the case here. The piazza was stunning, and despite the thousands of tourists it was still easy to relax and not bump into everyone. Certainly worth the visit to Siena for this alone.
