Can't vouch for the view, but we chickened out as the stairs are so narrow you are not allowed anything but your camera. All bags must be checked, although we were allowed to carry water. Started up and although we could have managed the stairs, (climbed plenty of other towers), once you start there are no rest stops or even niches to step into, so just felt too uncomfortable to continue, knowing that if we wanted to stop and catch our breath that we would be holding up the people below as they can't get past. Looking at the photos, the view of the square is lovely, but this is the only climb we have backed out of because of the claustrophobic atmosphere. And yes they do rush you, even though there weren't many people.

Yes, there are a lot of steps but it really is worth the effort. We had a view over all of Siena and beyond and I'm so glad we didn't miss this. It just brings back pleasant memories when I look at the photographs taken from there.

Tower is located on Piazza del Campo and overlooks entire Siena. View is beautiful, but we felt rushed during whole stay on the tower. When we just came up to the entrance (2-3rd floor) there is a bathroom that we wanted to use, but 2 ticket attendants were rushing us not to stay and go up: “Go up! Go up!..”. Even though it was just us and nobody else was behind us.

The steps to the top are very narrow with low ceiling. If you are going and somebody is coming down there is no way for 2 people to be on steps at the same time, somebody needs to stay on flights between steps to let other people go. I felt like both ways: going up and going down we were the ones letting other people go; very narrow again, and everybody brushed up against you …

On the top is a great view, but space is limited again. There is a little platform lower in the tower where a great view of Piazza del Campo opens up. I stopped to look while waiting for my husband (who was allowing other people to come up, waiting somewhere between steps), but attendants were rushing again: “Go down! Go down! Don’t stay!” and didn’t allow me to wait for him.

We paid 8 EURO per person for a ticket, got rushed entire time, and spent more time between flights of steps than on actual tower with a view. The view was great, but everything around it (going up, down, got rushed) left very uneasy feeling. Felt overpriced and overrated.

Walked up the tower today. Lots of steps so not for the faint hearted. Fantastic views of Siena on a lovely sunny October day. Only €8 a person - well worth it.
