“Italian dream”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

For at least 10 years our sculpture teacher, Marko Markov, has been going to Le Caggia with a group of students for a week to give sculpture lessons. We have joined the group for the last 3 years and every time it was amazing! On the open field above the pool there is more than enough place to sculpt. After work there is in and around the house a lot off place to hang out together, rest in the privacy of the excellent bedrooms or to just take a dip in the pool or hottub. Also a big luxury are the 3 meals provided every day. A simple breakfast to start the day of right. Lunch and diner are every time a big surprise prepeared by the "Italiand gods" Fabio and Jacopo. The guys are great at hospitality, kindness, helpfulness and of course their cooking. Its hard everytime to leave after a great week like that, but luckily with every goodbye we can also say: see you next year!

“Ideal Tuscan Getaway”

We spent the first two weeks of June with three other couples at Le Caggia. I have to say that the villa lived up to all of its reviews. The setting is quiet and surrounding countryside is beautiful. The buildings themselves are ancient yet have all of the modern conveniences you would need. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The WiFi is reasonably reliable.

The kitchen is well equipped and large enough for a group to cook together or just hang out with a glass of wine and watch. For shopping we found the COOP in Rosia well stocked and easier to get to than the market in Siena. No need to buy and lug wine. The villa carries a great selection of wines at very reasonable prices.

The location is great for just relaxing and chatting over wine and cheese on the lawn or as a base for trips to the many hill towns of Tuscany. Siena is only 25-30 minutes away and the views of the countryside from the hills on the way is spectacular. Many of the hill towns are within an hour's drive.

There are not a lot of restaurants in the are since it's a bit off the beaten track. But the two recommended by our hosts were worth going to if you want to skip cooking and get away for dinner. Donato & Donata is a nice little family run place with outdoor seating available as well as an attractive indoor dining room decorated with works from a resident artist. They specialize in grilled meats and local vegetables. Astronave in the town of Scorgiano is a bit more of a drive but well worth it. The theme is based on the moon landing of 1969. (Astronave means spaceship in Italian.) It's little quirky when you first see the decor but the food, especially the grilled meat, is top notch and the service is very friendly and attentive.

No review would be complete without thanks and praise for our hosts Jacopo and Fabio. They made us feel welcome and comfortable from the start. We now count them both among our friends. If you stay there be sure to have them do a dinner/cooking lesson with you. The villa is surrounded by gardens and fresh herbs and these are incorporated into the meal. They were especially helpful when my wife's cousins and their families came for Sunday dinner. Everything was fabulous. We could not have done it without them.

If you want to have a truly relaxing Tuscan vacation you have to stay at Le Caggia. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

“AMAZING VILLA! Stay here-you will NOT be sorry!”

This villa is HUGE. It's gorgeous, clean, well kept, peaceful and it has everything you could possibly want or need for an enjoyable stay in Tuscany. You're truly in the middle of nowhere at this villa, which is such a breath of fresh air. It takes time to get anywhere around you, but it’s worth the effort. Five adults stayed here for a week to celebrate my mother’s 65th birthday and the villa was an amazing place to spend the day or come home to at night after a long day touring the area. There was plenty of space inside and outside for everyone to have their privacy during our stay.

A few highlights:

THE KITCHEN: It had everything you could possible want or need to cook for yourself. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen making breakfasts, lunches and dinners. It was nice to have that option and we took full advantage of it.

THE GARDEN: We were given a ton of veggies and spices for cooking from the villa’s garden upon arrival. They were fresh and delicious. It was a nice perk having a well tended garden on site.

THE POOL: The salt water pool is phenomenal. We would literally eat appetizers and drink wine IN the pool as the sun set. It just doesn’t get better than that.

THE HOT TUB: The wood burning hot tub was amazing under the star packed sky at night time.

THE PROPERTY MANAGERS: From the very beginning to the very end, dealing with Jacopo and Fabio was very easy and pleasant. They communicated well and followed through with everything that they said they do for us. They even offered to have food in the fridge upon our arrival for only the cost of the foods we chose. They cooked for us the first night for a small fee and everything was perfectly fresh and homemade from the garden. We had leftovers from that meal that lasted us all week. They even have a wine cellar with very reasonably priced wine available. It seemed to cost even less than what the stores nearby charged. The icing on the cake was when we realized we were missing salt one night for cooking. We called Fabio to ask him if it was hidden somewhere and, in fact, it was not. Fabio literally biked salt to the villa for us within 15 minutes. It was unbelievable. They both went above and beyond the call of hosting. Throughout our stay, Jacopo would check in here and there to make sure everything was going okay. He even recommended different tours we could take and we loved the ones he suggested.

I could go on and on, but I’ll spare you. All in all, I really don't have one bad thing to say about this place. You will NOT be sorry if you choose to stay here! DO IT!

We spent a week at this villa to celebrate my husband's parent's 50th wedding anniversary as well as their 75th birthdays. We presented various food limitations (gluten-free, Kosher, etc.) and Jacopo was so kind to e-mail a great deal ahead of the trip to help plan a few meals that they prepared for us, as well as our grocery shopping - including a surprise dinner party for the anniversary which Jacopo so generously researched and volunteered to go to Florence to a Kosher butcher to make the meal truly special for the honored guests of the party! Above and beyond anything that was necessary - simply classy. Which is how we would describe the whole operation at Caggia - classy. Everything is so thoughtfully arranged, placed and planned. From linens, towels and kitchen equipment to a lovely selection of wines available. We recommend having Jacopo and Fabio make your arrival meal, at least! Delicious and lasted us into the next day! They also outdid themselves with an elegant and delicious meal for the anniversary party - leftovers lasted us a few lunches! They are both so accommodating and have already thought of everything. Beds are comfortable, towels are plentiful, the renovation of the property (overseen by them several years ago) is smartly done for maximum comfort and appeal. The gardens (Fabio's endeavor) are truly lovely. The property is situated with sweeping views in every direction, making for such tranquility and peace that is rarely found. We were there with three couples and three children (aged 4, 6, 9) and everyone had plenty of space - and the kids, who all live in cities at home, had room to run and enjoy the great outdoors. The pool is perfect for afternoons of entertainment, while there is enough space around the property for privacy, rest, and relaxation even if the pool is occupied by delighted (and therefore loud!) children. There was far more room than even we needed so I wouldn't hesitate to return with an additional family or two and still know that we'd have plenty of room. For those desiring to be closer to the action of Siena or any town activities, this property might not be as easy since it involves 20 minutes or so of winding and/or unpaved roads to get to Siena, however it is worth the charming drive to have the perfect tranquility upon returning from any sightseeing. Simply put, we loved it and hope to return some day. Mille Grazie to Jacopo and Fabio for taking such wonderful care of us all!

“Best part of our trip to Italy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Our trip to Italy started out a bit bumpy, but all was forgotten when we arrived at the villa. Jacapo and Fabio greeted us like old friends. They gave us a tour of the beautiful property. It fully lived up to our expectations and surpassed them. The house is warm and comfortable. There are plenty of bedrooms and they can be configured as you need them.

We had 5 children with us aged 9 to 17 and all had plenty to do. Wifi was available, which is huge when traveling with teens! The pool was bigger than it seems in the picture. The kids had a great time unwinding after spending the days touring the surrounding areas. The landscape is so beautiful in the Siena area. There were lots of wineries and small towns to visit. The town of Siena, itself, can take several days to see. Greve is a very charming town nearby.

Jacapo made dinner for us twice. It was ready for us when we returned after a long day trip. We just popped it in the oven and it was delicious. The wine that is available at the villa accompanied our meals well.

Fabio and Jacapo are on hand and maintaining the property. They were very solicitous and did most of the work while we were out. They are friendly and helpful and offered great suggestions on places to visit.

Would highly recommend this property to a family with children, large group, or several families.

"All I can say is wow" were the first and last words out of our mouths upon arriving and departing this beautiful Villa. This was our first experience renting a house in Tuscany, and we could not have been happier. Fabio and Jacapo were the most AMAZING hosts! We arrived on Easter with a group of 12 people and they had the most wonderful meal prepared for us! We were a diffucult group to cook for because between us, we had several different food allergies, and the feast they prepared was authentic Italian and beyond our expectations. They also offered to have whatever food we needed stocked in the house upon arrival, because grocery stores were closed due to the holiday. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the pictures posted online do not do justice to the beauty of the house. We had more than enough room for the 12 of us! I would recommend this to any family or group looking for a villa in Tuscany. Wonderful experience! We can't wait to come back!

“THE most idyllic holiday house.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013 for a stay in December 2012

Our family of five (2 adults and 3 children) stayed at Le Caggia for 10 fantastic days in December 2012. Whilst it was cold and frosty outside, the house was warm, comfortable and spacious.

From the moment we drove up the road towards the house, we knew that we had made the right decision about this house. On arrival, we were greeted by Fabio who welcomed us so warmly and showed us into the house. It was a cold but sunny day outside but the house was lovely and warm and we instantly felt at home.

The big eat in kitchen/dining area was so spacious and so well equipped. We cooked a lot over the period that we were there and could not get over how there was just everything there that we ever needed.

The children were in heaven when they saw the Xbox360 in the lounge as well as the selection of games and DVDs. They also loved the outdoor space, the gardens, the freedom to run around and the fact that there was a cool pool (even though it had ice on it and we couldn't use it). They never ran out of space to play hide and seek inside and outside.

The beds were really comfortable and there was a bathroom for each of us. It was great to have so much space.

The location couldn't have been better for us. Being so remote but yet only 15kms from Siena meant that we could easily tour everywhere. We managed to tick off all the sights that we had planned to see and had several relaxing days enjoying the house.

We stayed at Le Caggia at the end of a 3 month trip around the UK, France & Italy. We rented houses and flats throughout our stay and this was by far the best, the most comfortable and the best equipped house of any of them.

And finally, I can't write a review without mentioning Jacopo and Fabio. They both went above and beyond to make our stay so perfect. From my endless email enquiries before we arrived, to looking after us when we were there and all the extra little touches.... A perfect Tuscan experience. We'll be back!
