“Unforgettable day with Azzurra in the Val d'Orcia”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

Our tour was originally supposed to be with Silvia but due to a last-minute conflict we were guided by Azzurra that day. She was a great tour guide, showed us some amazing hidden treasures of Tuscany and was fun to hang out with for the day! Here was our itinerary:

We were picked up in the morning and headed out for Il Casale, a beautiful organic cheese farm. We met the owner, Sandra, who told us about the cheesemaking process, the farm and the house. She was very kind, and extremely passionate about her craft, which is always so wonderful to see. We tried all of the varieties of goat cheese and pecorino that they make on the farm (with bread and wine, of course) until we were stuffed.
Then it was on to Pienza, where Azzurra showed us some of the historical highlights and gave us some free time to explore.
Afterward we went to San Quirico, which was an adorable little town with fewer tourists than Pienza.
Then a tour of a family-run Brunello winery, Molino di Sant'Antimo, given by one of the daughters of the family (Giulia) and the head of business management and marketing. Then her mother prepared an amazing lunch for us in their home and we ate while tasting beautiful Brunellos.
Afterward we stopped at the abbey of Sant'Antimo, and were supposed to hear the monks chanting but were too late for it (although Azzurra said it's not really worth hearing, we would have liked the choice of whether to go there before lunch if we had known there was only a certain time window for this).
Then we visited Montalcino, Azzurra showed us some more interesting historical sites and we had some more time by ourselves to walk around.
In Montalcino we were given an olive oil tasting at an organic shop specializing in local cheese/olive oil/pasta, etc.. I had thought this was going to be an olive oil tasting AT an olive mill, but I think we had run out of time for that. The tasting at the store was nice, though, and they gave us a couple of little bottles of very nice olive oil to take back with us.
After our 8-hour day of touring, we were dropped off back at our hotel.

This was my FAVORITE day of our entire honeymoon, I was just blown away by the beauty of the Val d'Orcia and all of its history. It was so much better having someone take us around to the best bits of the region rather than trying to explore it on our own, and Azzurra was a wonderful guide.

If you are considering a tour day during your stay in Tuscany, I highly recommend Tuscan Escapes!

“Best day in Siena!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Silvia gave my husband and I the most memorable part of our trip to Siena. We were shocked at how much time she spent with us. Almost 8 hours she spent taking us through the Tuscan hillside, to a winery, to medieval towns, and finally to an organic farm for a beautiful, authentic dinner. The experience was only something we had seen in movies. Silvia was very friendly and knowledgeable as we learned a lot about Chianti wines and the history of the region from her. The cost is very low for what you get. Try the Sunset wine tour and request Silvia to be your guide!

“wish i could do this every week!”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

we did this tour on our honeymoon with Daniele. It was the favorite part of our honeymoon by FAR. He picked us up in Siena, took us to Greve, Castelina, and Montefioralo then to Campocorto (a local vineyard and olive oil producer) for lunch with the owners and their family and then to Losi vineyard. The entire trip was perfect. Daniele was knowledgeable and friendly. The lunch at Campocorto was our best meal in Italy and spending the day with Marco, Paola, and their family was really fantastic -- a moment we will never forget. HIGHLY recommend.

“Lives up to the name - a proper Tuscan Escape!”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

We can highly recommend the Sunset tour which we took with Milo in June 2013. We were picked up by Milo at 3pm in Siena and over the course of the next 7/8 hours we visited a local vineyard, tasting may different varieties of wine and oilve oil, had gelato in Castellina, walked around the beautiful town of San Gimignano and finally had dinner at an organic farm with beautiful views of San Gimignano while the sun was setting. Along the way Milo was very chatty, talking a lot about local wine and food, history, politics, just about everything, he was a very friendly chap. He even made sure he called ahead to the farm to ensure they would cater for a vegetarian meal.
This tour is a great way to discover some of the little towns in Tuscany, taste some of the wines, hear some great stories and have a proper 5 course authentic dining experience in a very beautiful and romantic setting..Highly recommended.

“Sylvia and Milo-fantasticooooo”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

As a group of 8 female friends on a trip to Siena, we arranged 3 full day trips with Tuscan Escapes, which were personalised for our group and led by the owners, Milo and his wife Sylvia. We started with a walking trip of Siena on our first morning, with Sylvia, who's knowledge was fantastic. During the walk we were treated to some tasters of local pastries and delicacies. After lunch we met Milo for the sunset tour, who took us into the Tuscan countryside. The people carrier was ideal to accommodate the 8 of us. Milo is extremely friendly and chatty and has unbound local knowledge and very good incite into the local wines . During the tour we visited a vineyard and had a prolonged wine tasting facilitated by the owner. Later we visited some beautiful iconic Tuscan hillside towns including Giimignano. Then we had dinner at a farm that does all its own produce from veg, wine and beef. What a fantastic experience,Food brill, wine brill, location brill and Milo had the patience to put up with us, especially on the ride back home and our singing. What a day!

Next was a tour taken by Sylvia to montepulciano ,Pienza and Montalcino with lunch on a diary farm which was again outstanding ,then on to another wine tasting (its rearly hard this tasting lark) and then on to a private dinner at another vine yard hosted by the daughter of the family in their lovely home. Here we had the privilege to have an exquisite 3 course meal cooked and served by her mother, whilst tasting the lovely different chianti wines of the house with each course. Then another sing song ride home! Well if Milo can put up with it......

Finally on the last day we did the Chianti castles tour with Milo, lovely, and of course a wine tasting or two. We arrived back in Siena in time for dinner.
All I can say is a big thanks from all of us for making our tour a memorable experience.
I should also mention that they also arranged for the return transfers for us within the package and were on time throughout and plenty of room for luggage as well. OUTSTANDING...
