“Superfriendly, modern and lovely hostel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014 via mobile

This place is a great base to explore tuscany from. Staff is extremely friendly and chatty, breakfast with fresh pastrieas every morning, lovely terrace, simple bit clean and modern rooms. Also loved that they offered beds in twinrooms in addition to the usual dorms which makes it a really good alternative to hostels. This place has awakened my love for hostels again, stayed there for 10 days, also because ot was so easy to meet other people. Will go there again, fantastic place run by great people!

My fiancé and I are backpacking through Europe for 12 months on a tight budget. Our review below is an indication of the experience we had at the Siena Hostel. We stayed in a twin room with shared bathrooms.

Pros
- Cheap prices. We had a twin room all to ourselves for €41.40. Usually, you would pay a lot more for a private room in a hostel in Europe.
- Common areas were huge and well furnished with multiple couches, a table & chairs and vending machines. Each floor had it's own common area.
- Tasty breakfast. There were croissants, donuts, bread, rolls, cereal, orange juice and a cappuccino. On the breakfast counter, there was a book with all of the breakfast items they served and a recipe list with the ingredients of each product. I think they might have made the products themselves. They even served me gluten free products from the supermarket, which I thought was VERY thoughtful. As a celiac, that was my first experience with a proper gluten free breakfast in a European hostel.
- Helpful staff. On check in, we were welcomed by a lovely woman who instantly recommend places of interest, restaurants, the nearest supermarket, etc.
- Bathrooms were large and clean.
- Large fridge available in the main common room.
- Beautiful deck out the front and space around the back in the gardens with colourful seating.

Cons
- Location was quite far out of town. We made the mistake of walking from the train station with our wheeled packs. There are certain parts of the road where there is no footpath & it can be quite dangerous, but we managed in the end. While the location may seem a 'con', the hostel staff try their best to compensate. They offer a bus service anywhere in the city for only €2, all day and night. We asked for a lift and were whisked into the mini bus within 2 minutes. Brilliant service!
- Heat. We stayed at the Siena Hostel in early July & it was very muggy, even at night. There was no fan or air conditioning in our room, but there was a large window with shutters that completely opened. We would have been fine to leave the window open all night, except that there was large tiered scaffolding directly outside our window ( they are undergoing some renovations) and it would have been possible for someone to climb up from the outside.
- No cooking facilities, which made it difficult to stick to our budget, as we usually try to cook our meals to save money.
- Poor wifi connection in our room. Better signal in the common areas.

Summary
The hostel is huge and most probably a good place to meet fellow travellers. The price is very reasonable. The location is not ideal, but the staff definitely make up for that by offering cheap transfers to a destination of your choosing.

One of the best hostels I have been to in Italy. Top things about this hostel for us were as follows: The staff were seriously friendly and helpful. They couldn't have made us feel more welcome and provided us with all we needed. I thought this hostel was also clean, the rooms were spotless and bathrooms immaculate. There were nice touches as well like sweets for free (!) and lots of books you could read in the communal areas. The breakfasts were great and it's not often we have found they are Included in the price. Best coffee machine too! The building works personally didn't bother me at all. I would highly recommend it. It is not in the centre of Old Sienna but buses are easy and you can also easily walk. Likewise to the station, it's totally walkable or again just take a bus. Great hostel.

This hostel looks more like a hotel actually as it's got almost 50 rooms, with no kitchen at guests disposal and few dorms. The location is far from city center, but the bus offer is good enough for the round trip that costs 2x 1,20 EUR. Beds are nice, wardrobes, bathrooms looks like enough for everybody, morning coffee very nice (coffee machines at will, controlled bread ammount, cereals and milk at your disposal). The prices, as in Tuscany in general i thought were elevated, around 23 EUR per night but the other options didn't look so close and offered as many things. Good place to stay.

Overall a positive experience
The location was fine for us because we had a car. The staff was friendly and helpful. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Siena hostel was great. We stayed here for a few nights and the staff absolutely made you feel welcome. There was some construction on the building but this didnt affect us one bit while we were there. Breakfast was awesome and the common areas were plentiful - chance to chill alone or in the main dining area. Our room was a peivate twin and was great, comfy bed, extra blankets and a decent wardrobe. Bathrooms were shared and there were plenty available.the hostel is a little way from the public transport but we drove so no prob for us. Also staff happy to help with restaurant and sight seeing recommendations.

As a solo traveller & first time in a hostel accommodation, I had a great stay. Every staff so friendly & helpful. The room was a double room which was pretty roomy & very clean. I felt so comfortable there. Shared bathrooms were great, hardly saw other guests using them. Great location, bus stop into centro at doorstep, but a lovely 40min walk as an alternative. Bus from train/bus station also right at doorstep, just make sure to ask driver where to stop if unsure of area ( I mean the big black&white strips are now obvious, but sometimes easy to miss if on a bus when you can not see out window). Breakfast pretty good, just cereals, tea, coffee & juices and options to buy cheap croissants if you want. A very handy supermarket near by along with fruit shops and McDonald's within 5 minutes walk. My stay was great, would recommend.
