“Good value for Siena”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

This restaurant had adequate food for such a touristed city.We dined there twice; first night better than the second. My pasta dish was great the first time, second was just OK. Meat dish a little dry and tough. Tourists are sat in front of restaurant, and the locals in the back(even with a reservation)....the staff , mainly the owner was not overly welcoming.....I would recommend this establishment with caution...I felt they were inconsistent.

“Dinner in Siena”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013

We found the recommendation for this restaurant from Frommer's. Outstanding menu and great service. There are a few different stew dishes to choose from and the ox tail in Chianti sauce is excellent. Sit outside and enjoy the ambience.

“A Welcome Find In a Touristy Area of Siena”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013

We tried this osteria a day after the famous Palio, getting the last available table. Our waiter was most accommodating, the food was excellent (the steak Florentine seemed to be a big hit at tables around ours) and the wine list large; we appreciated they have good wines by the glass. We really like the simple elegance of the décor as well. We sat in the first room and they did have 2 airconditioning units going full blast, one portable and one unit on the wall.

Be aware that you need to pay with cash and yes, getting the bill will be the a wait; most tables just got up and paid at the register when finished rather than asking for & waiting for a check. No one seemed bothered by this, neither customers nor server so it worked well for all involved....maybe that's the system.

We really enjoyed the experience and would eat here again.

“Good food, good price in Sienna the tourist trap”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

This little doorway is easy to miss but the restaurant goes back much further than a quick look into the dining area suggests. The promise of air conditioning is currently something of a fib, although the back of the premises, under high terracotta arches is cool and swept by fans, making it a pleasant dining location even in the peak summer heat.

We tried the Tagliettelli, Ravioli and Pasta with ewe’s cheese. All were superb, although the latter topped our charts in our humble opinion. Very reasonable bill considering this is almost the centre of Sienna and it's easy to pay a LOT more for something of a much lower standard if you eat in the piazza.

Note: It Says “Osteria” on the door in big letters, Boccon del Prete is much smaller (see photo).

“They made us feel like regulars...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

When we told our hotel desk clerk that we wanted a local, not tourist experience she immediately named this as her favorite restaurant and she made us a reservation.
We were not disappointed. Baccala crepes that were out of this world for an appetizer and two fabulous main courses followed: a beef carpaccio and sea bream with gnocchi in a simple fresh lemon sauce. We ordered a bottle of chianti and a glass of the Tuscan white wine: both were great. The service was attentive and friendly and the food arrived nicely timed, not rushed, not slow.
In fact we like it so much that we went back the next night. We were greeted as if we ate there at least twice a week. They gave us the same table, advised us on another chianti (told us it was cheaper and better than what we'd ordered the night before: it was) and just made us feel at home.
The restaurant was busy both nights but the service was wonderful -- relaxed, friendly and just what we wanted.
Can't say enough nice things.
