Do not stay in room number 2. It has a very small window close to the ceiling. Not enough fresh air at night. On Sep.24 we couldn't not sleep at night without opening the door of our room into a hall that was shared by two other rooms. Other two rooms had big regular (not close to the ceiling) windows with the view. The owner should distinguish those rooms by price like all other hotels do (i.e. standard or superior room) so that clients would know what they are paying for.

Room Tip: Do not stay in room number 2. It has a very small window close to the ceiling. Not enough fresh air...

What a brilliant idea, a medieval castle converted into self-catering units! It is very well located for discovering Tuscany and you don’t have any parking issues as you might have staying inside city boundaries. However do take note of the stairs that lead up to the castle, there are no elevators, this is a historic site. But the view from the top of the hill made it worth it. Also the room we strayed in was very well renovated, neat and clean. There is a kitchen if you would like to prepare something yourself. The owners of the property gave us a very warm welcome and also suggested an osteria close by that was very good. I would certainly again stay here when we visit Tuscany.

Our stay at Castello di Monteliscai, built in the 1100's, was magical. Aside from having to climb what seemed like a million steps to the very top room in the tower, where we stayed five nights, everything about our stay in this castello was amazing. The view from the window in the tower was more beautiful than anything we could have dreamed about the Tuscan hills. It was to die for. We wanted to wrap it up and take it with us when we left. The owners of Castello di Monteliscai were great. When we told them we were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary, they recommended the tower room for its panoramic views and we are so glad we took their advice. The son and daughter team along with their parents own Castello de Monteliscai and also Agriturisimo Malafrasca. We couldn't have asked for more gracious hosts...even giving us a bottle of the wine they produce themselves. The owners were not on site at the Castello, but stopped by frequently during our stay. We really didn't have any problems. They were very helpful and especially in recommending a restaurant nearby (in Ponte A Bozzone) where we ate several times. The owners of Vecchia Osteria, Carmine and Rosana, are not only great chefs, but amazing hosts as well. Anything on the menu is terrific. The Castello di Monteliscai is a couple of miles outside Siena and we had a car so it was perfect for us. There is a road near the castello we walked most mornings towards San Giorgio a Lapi that took our breath away for its picturesque charm...vineyards, olive groves, centuries old houses...ah! We were intoxicated by the beauty of it all.

We Found the castle by signage and a bit of luck, the kind owner drove to meet us and we followed her to the agriturismo to fill out paperwork and enjoy a celebratory couple of glasses of their own vin santo. Daughter and father had good recommendation on where to eat and provided map and good directions to city. Our room had no window and bed was upstairs, may not want to spend a week in it but it was and felt ancient and like a storybook. The owners were sweet and not rude at all. We enjoyed this unique location. Price is reasonable.

This place is totally misrepresented on any website. Please note that the long staircase in order just to enter is in very bad shape and very difficult to ascend with luggage or in the evening. The place has a dirty feel to it. Worst of all, the owners are rude and inhospitable. Go elsewhere!

We are very surprised reading this review. We have always had a direct relationship with all of our guests (we are the owners and we like to personally meet them all) and usually it's very pleasant relate to them. So we only feel to invite who is reading to take a look at all the reviews to get a general idea about us and give appropriate weight to each one of them.

Perfectly secluded............whilst still within easy taxi distance of Siena.

The owners incredibly friendly with welcoming drink (or two)...made sure we were well settled in.
Had the spacious 11th Century 'Tower' room with it's stunning views.

A Satnav (or taxi) essential for finding.........but worth the effort.

Eleanor and her mother very welcoming hosts !!

Room Tip: The higher the better for views.........tower room particularly good.

Definitely a little hidden gem. Rooms are in a real medieval castle, properly restored respecting the original structure, material and character. Different apartment/rooms size are available: I stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment that was spot clean, comfortable with lots of space, a real kitchen not a kitchenette, bathroom, tv and everything needed for a pleasant stay. Service has been extremely nice and friendly: you need to collect the keys at an agriturismo about 4-5km away, since the family managing the site does not reside at the castle, but I have been contacted in advance by phone, welcomed with warmth and kindness provided with all the information needed, numbers to call in case of need, and the manager drove me straight to the castle, showing the apartment and appliances while having a nice chat about the castle history, restoration, nearby surroundings etc, and I was treated to free coffee and locally produced wine, both when I arrived and when I brought back the keys the day after.
The only downsides, as already noted, are that you need a car, since the castle is in the middle of the countryside, 20 minute from Siena, and it's not easy to reach if you have walking problems, due to the presence of stairs and the need to park the car like 50m away; apart from that, sleeping and waking up in the castle, away from traffic, noise, in the middle of the Tuscany countryside and with a stunning view were really a magical experience
