During our recent visit to Tuscany, our family arranged for a Chianti Classico tour with Franco. He arrived at our remote villa promptly at the appointed time and we set about our day. Right from the get go, Franco entertained us, educated us, and escorted us along the back roads of the area. We enjoyed awesome vistas throughout the countryside. We learned about the winemaking process and tasted multiple varieties of wine, olive oil and vinegar. And then...A marvelous lunch (an incredible taste treat) in a mountainside bistro. Franco is knowledgable, personable and funny. Don't miss the opportunity to spend the day with him.

DO THIS!!!!!! Our group of 4 booked the Chianti tour with Franco, and are so happy we did. It truly was the best day of our 2 weeks in Italy. Booking was easy, done through email on Franco's website. We weren't sure what to expect. Franco picked us up at the villa we had rented (not easy to find), and was right on time. We then picked up the other group who would be joining us that day. We couldn't have hand picked better people to spend the day with!!! We also met up with Franco's co worker, Sergio who was just a great guy to be with. Franco not only taught us about Chianti, the culture, the people, the history, and the winemaking, but he also shared some personal experiences, and made us laugh all day long. Our first winery was ColleBereto which as is common in Chianti makes olive oil as well as wine. The winery and surrounding village are all owned by one family. The grounds are simply beautiful. Franco took us into the wine cellars, and into the pressing rooms for the olive oil. After this part of the tour, we went into the tasting room where we sampled some of the delicious wines, olive oil, and vinegar, produced by this family. Franco even brought freshly baked bread to make the tasting more enjoyable. It was evident that Franco has a great relationship with the people of this winery which made our experience all the better.
Then, Franco took us to lunch in Volpaia. He ordered a "tasting" menu which was absolutely delicious! We enjoyed ravioli in brown butter and sage, pasta with truffles, wild boar, rabbit, and spicy beef. Then we walked up the street and met another friend of Franco, Paola, who owns the Bar-Ucci, a cute little bistro. She gave us each a shot her homemade lemoncello which was the best I have ever tasted. She was so friendly, charming, and fun to meet!
The second winery we visited was also in an historic village owned by one family, Castello D'Albola. It was beautiful, and Franco knew the history of the area as well as the wine. Here, we tasted several wines including a dessert wine and grappa. Again, Franco had a great relationship with the people who owned the restaurant and the winery, and it was evident that those relationships truly benefit us, the customer.
Both wineries could ship wine so you could get it home.
Do not hesitate to spend the money on a tour with Franco Faddo!!!! It is worth every cent.

If you are in the Siena area, take the time to spend the day with Franco! The tour was easy to arrange via email. Franco picked us up at our villa in his comfortable air conditioned van. There were 9 people on the tour, so he arranged for an extra driver to make sure we were all comfortable. Franco and Sergio were the perfect hosts for a perfect day. The drive up to the Chianti region was beautiful-lots of twisty turny roads. Franco was careful to go slowly so that we were comfortable-even stopped to buy dramamine for a couple people on the tour who were getting motion sickness. Our first stop was the Colle Bereto winery in Radda. Spectacular views! Franco conducted a tour through the private winery and showed us how olive oil is made. The cellar of this winery was decorated with beautiful chandeliers. We had a great tasting of both the wine and the olive oil. Franco brought fresh bread and soaked it with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Heavenly... Some braver members of our group sampled the grappa.

The next phase of the day was lunch in the small village of Volpia at an outdoor patio. Franco selected the menu of local foods. More yummy wine and a relaxed pace. We had pasta with truffles, wild boar, spicy beef, ravioli, a huge salad, and rabbit. This was one of the best meals of our entire trip. After lunch we hiked through this ancient village, following shots of limoncello from a friend of Franco who happened to see us walking through. Charming!

Our last stop was at a winery in a castle. It was wonderful to go into the cellars and sample the wine right from the barrels!

I would highly recommend this tour! By the end of the day we were exchanging email addresses with the other members of the tour-good food, great wine, new friends and two fabulous hosts! We never felt rushed. Franco and Sergio are both fluent in English, took the time to answer all of our questions and made us feel welcome in their beatiful country. Franco even stopped at his favorite grocery store on our way home when he heard we needed a few necessities for the night and waited for us while we shopped. I will always remember this day as one of the best days ever!!!!

My boyfriend and I booked Franco's Chianti Classico tour about 2 months before traveling to Siena. Franco was very responsive and helpful via email prior to booking.

Our tour consisted of a group of 9 people. The tour meets in the morning at a meeting location in Siena. Franco gave us the option to be picked up at the villa we were staying at (15 minutes northeast of Siena) or meet at the Siena location. We opted for the pick up as it was a 40 EUR roundtrip taxi ride to/from Siena. Franco accommodated this request the morning of the tour and sent Sergio (his driving partner) to pick us up in a separate air conditioned van for an extra cost of 30 EUR total.

The tour was wonderful and more than just a simple wine tasting. We spent the whole day in the Chianti region visiting 2 wineries and a few small towns along the way. It wasn't a text book wine tour. It was laid back and personalized for our group. He gave great information and background on the region and the wine making process. At the first winery, we learned about the old and new ways of producing wine and tasted 3 different wines and grappa. We also had bread and olive oil. We had a wonderful lunch of 2 different pastas and 3 different meat options at a restaurant atop a hill. It was beautiful and relaxing. We even had limoncello shots after lunch! At the second winery, we we got to drink right out of a huge barrel of wine! The tasting consisted of about 4 different wines and grappa.

Franco and Sergio are sincere and friendly people. They were entertaining and informative. We had a great time on this tour and would recommend it to our friends!
