The prices went up significantly since I visited this place last year. The service got better. Taking the price and food quality in the equation, I would not return to this restaurant.

in terms of food quality absolutley nothing to say. Fresh truffle and mushrooms easy to find and many more deliciuos plates awaiting for you . If you are in for a nice dinner with lovely dishes and top quality wine this is the place for you!!
Only thing to pay attention is the final price. You can easily get carried away in trying all different things and drink lovely wines...price can be high!!!
We ended up paying over 100 eur each but we really treated ourself nicely

Had a good feeling about this place when I went in for first sitting at dinner on a Friday. Finally seemed like a #1 TripAdvisor place would live up to its reputation. Service was very good throughout. The menu options were varied and interesting, with many dishes I've never seen in two months in Italy. Had quail's egg with black truffle for antipasto, which was very good. Primo of tagliatelle with a duck and orange sauce was a bit congealed and disappointing. Secondo of beef stewed in Barolo turned out to be two thin slices of beef in a (nice) sauce but which looked and felt mass-produced. That and the side order were lukewarm. With the contorno of mushy grilled veg the main course on its own was 26 Euros which was a joke of a price for that standard. Clearly leveraging off their #1 TA placing to squeeze value out of their client base, half of which seems to be American tourists.

Merely 400 m from Piazza del campo, this ristorante drew us there because of its #1 rank in Tripadvisor. The taverna has a cavernous atmosphere deserving of its Antica feel. We were seated at 1245pm for lunch and the room filled out quickly after 130pm which is about the time our initial quick service slowed down to a long pause. Sure one of us ordered grilled pork shank which according to the owner took time. But people who came late got their food earlier. Aside from this, the meal was very good. Spinach and truffle in a puff pastry was excellent ( A-) so was the quail egg polenta with truffles ( A-). Pappardelle with lepre sauce was a bit dry ( B). The duck was okay not great ( B). Our friend who ordered chicken liver raved about the dish as the best liver he has had. We ordered a Lucente 2009, a second wine of Luce and it turned out to be great value at 35€. Tiramisu turned out to be mediocre- too much mascarpone, not enough of cocoa, coffee and lady fingers (C). All told a very good meal but a little shy of excellence.
