“My best starter in Tuscany!”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Last night we went to La Taverna di San Guiseppe after searching Trip advisor for the best restaurants whilst we were staying in Siena.

We made a point to visit 3 other places first for comparison but liked the look of this one.

We arrived at 8.45pm with no reservation and following briefly browsing the menu we decided to ask if there were any free tables as droves of taxi's proceeded to drop off car loads of Italian diners.

After walking inside I could see it was incredibly busy and was advised they would have a shared table space for us at 9.15pm.

We accepted the booking and were recommended a little wine bar around the corner whilst we waited. Wine bar was quaint and quite lovely with a very helpful man who assisted us with selecting some wine. We paid £16 for 2 glasses of Tuscan Sauvignon each for 2 people.

9.15 pronto we were pleasantly greeted by the hostess of the restaurant (owner?) And seated.

Great atmosphere and we didn't mind sharing a table as the seating wasn't closely squeezed.

We took the waiter's recommendation for a light white wine (21€ for the bottle which is much more than we would normally pay but were happy to have something special) - it was light and delicious just as requested.

We ordered potato souffle with shaved truffle and truffle oil (8€) and a traditional Tuscan meat board for starters, pici pasta with smoked cheese & brocolli (9€) and duck with potatoes for main (16€) and then later ordered creme brulee and the recommended tiramasu for dessert.

My souffle was absolutely to die for and I must say is easily the BEST starter I have ever had! I would highly advise! Even better steal some cured meat from your partners plate as I did to go with it - the saltiness with the souffle is amazing!!

Both of our mains were delicious, my partners pici pasta was particularly yummy and our desserts were scrummy as expected.

We had about half a bottle of wine left and so took this home.

All in all with service we paid 86€ for the entire meal with wine which although is much more than we would normally pay we felt was well deserved.

Great meal, great service and great atmosphere!

“Tasty tasty”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

The place was busy. We booked a table at lunchtime for the evening. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was fresh, delicious and I will certainly go back if in Siena again. The steak was 'melt in the mouth' succulent. It was a cold night and everytime the door opened we got an icy blast of cold air despite being in the middle of the restaurant. We had a four person table for two of us and the restaurant sat two other diners at our table. Not the place for privacy. But the fact it was so good meant they had to seat people where they could. Highly recommended place to eat.
