As others have mentioned, this superb property is located very close to the central piazza in San Gimignano, but is nevertheless a haven of peace, quiet and tranquility with its lovely little garden (complete with friendly tortoise).
There are two good restaurants (Antiche Mura and Dulcis in Fundo) less than 5 minutes walk away and a supermarket within reasonable walking distance.
In searching for negatives, the only points we could come up with were variable wifi strength at times, some occasional noise from the person upstairs (who seemed to be walking around in high heels on a wooden floor) and no dishwasher. But these were minor negatives and did not detract from the quality of the place.
Cristina speaks good English and is informative and very helpful. She even went out of her way to arrange a dentist appointment for us.
Cristina and Mario also arrange free parking if you come by car and a permit to drive in and out of the old city (which has the dreaded ZTL zones) to drop and collect luggage.
Perfect retreat, beautiful garden and very comfy accommodation. the air conditioning in the bedroom was much appreciated, it was very hot! the location was fab, just round the corner from the main piazza which is very busy although you would never know, all you can here are the birds singing its very peaceful.we had a wonderful stay, thanks Mario!
This is wonderful accomodation in a superb location with a large private garden for your oun use. Ideal for independent travellers who enjoy spacious well appointed accommodation. We felt San G. epitomised the best of Tuscany within its walls.
We arrived on the bus from Florence station, very easy. We were met by Cristina and Mario who were very friendly and welcoming. We were introduced to our apartment and given clear instructions. Siena is only a cheap bus ride away and a wonderful day out. Cars can be hired in San G. and Mario can arrange parking. We took many scenic country drives and a day trip to Pisa and Lucca. Despite touring we felt you could get the full Tuscan experience even if you just stayed in San G.
And yes of course we will be recommending Casa del Giardino to all independent travellers we know.
We had a lovely stay at this apartment. It's hard to get an idea from the images online, but the apartment is perfectly located (3 mins walk from the centre of town), but at the same time a tranquil little island in the middle of the hustle. There is nothing better after a day spent seeing the sites of this little town (or another in the region), than to quickly return to this spacious, warm, characteristic, tranquil little abode - with its own private garden (and a tortoise we named Reginald).
If you do decide to stay here we would recommend visiting Sienna, and taking an organised wine tour during your stay. The region is deservedly well know for its wine. Oh.. and say hi to Reginald for us.
Mario and his family were extremely friendly and helpful at all times.Their apartment was very very well furnished and the garden an added bonus. We spent many hours on the sun drenched patio in the garden. One of the best apartments that I have stayed at.Excellent in every respect.

To find such a beautiful & peaceful place to stay within the walls of San Gimignano was unbelievable. This place is a little oasis of tranquillity and calmness even though it is less than 200m from the ever increasing crowds in the centre of the town. You really are completely cut off from the hustle and bustle just around the corner. The apartment is fantastic but the real bonus is the garden which is still lovingly tended by Mario and a real sun trap. You really wouldn't believe that this could exist inside the walls of this town. Mario & Christina were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Thank you
The tortoise was christened 'George' for the week. Don't know why, just seems a good name for a tortoise. He is extremely friendly and chases you around the garden. Be warned though, he is surprisingly speedy and has a habit of biting your toes in the mornings when he is hungry. Sad to leave him and the wonderful apartment after a lovely week
