“Il Vicario Cooking School Amazing!”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

My husband and I found Il Vicario by looking for a cooking school while we visited San Gimignano. We spent a delightful afternoon learning to make pasta, sauces, crostini and chicken saltimboca. There were five of us and Katia and her Uncle Fulvio enchanted us with their perspective on Italian cooking. So many things we learned, like onion or garlic but not both in the same recipe. We loved our own cooking! We enjoyed different wines and lots of conversation. If you like to cook and are looking for a lunch or evening meal cooking school, choose this one. It is reasonably priced and the company is delightful. Although we did not stay there, we saw one of the rooms and it looked spacious and comfortable, especially compared to the place we were staying!

We've been only one night in Il Vicario and it was enough.
The welcome was friendly and generous, the owner is helpful and nice, and the view is great but the room was poor.
We've pay more than we usually pay and got much less.
The wifi didn't work well.
The room was average, but the bathroom was squashed into niche, and needed renovation. The toilet was in the same small niche, and the sink was inside the room.
it was our worst place in all our visit in Italy.

Room Tip: don't skip the guests pictures of the hotel

I stayed at il vicario with a friend for 3 nights from the 7 th October...I had researched for 12 months this part of my journey and I could not have been happier....fulvio was a WONDERFUL host and Katia was fantastic as well...the dinners served were authentic and delicious....Fulvio makes you feel like you are part of a big international family...I wish I would have set more time aside to stay in this Tuscan treasure....I will definitely be returning....yes it is hard to find but it is worth it in the end...and once you know where you are the Tuscan hills are your oyster!!!!thank you so much fulvio!!!!!

You will need a vehicle if you stay at this B&B, which we heartily recommend. Our room was large and had sensational views of Tuscany from every window. Fulvio greeted us with a glass of wine which was just what we needed. Fulvio and Katia welcomed us like family, and were really helpful in suggesting things to do and places to visit. There are some nice walks nearby. Whatever else you do, do not dine anywhere else. The two dinners that we had were hearty, authentic and great value. If we had our time again we would stay in Tuscany and at Il Vicario for longer than the 2 nights. Really nice people. We look forward to returning.

My wife and I plus another couple spent 5 days at Il Vicario from September 21 to 25. This B&B is a short distance from Sam Gimignano. The proprietor, Fulvio greeted us the first day with glasses of wine and quickly provided a light lunch as we had been travelling all day and were hungry. Rather then driving in the dark, we had booked dinner at Il Vicario the first night and were very glad we did. The excellent wine flowed as the courses arrived. The meal was very good and shared with 2 other couples having dinner.
Next morning after a fine breakfast we discussed our tentative plans for the next 4 days with Fulvio. He had many suggestions for places to visit and even gave step by step directions for driving to different locations with realistic time frames. His advise on where to park at different towns was invaluable. Over the next 4 days we saw and did a lot in the hill-towns around Il Vicario but still returned to the B&B twice for dinners as it was so good. On the last day we even took a cooking class run by Fulvio's niece Katia.
Il Vicario is a rustic location, centrally located in the Tuscan hills, surrounded by Vineyards. What makes Il Vicario exceptional is the owner Fulvio. He is a wealth of information, an excellent cook, host and speaks at least 4 languages fluently. He and his niece Katia were so warm and welcoming that it felt like we were returning home at night, not just returning to a hotel room.

Fulvio and Katia are great hosts. They cooked for us all both evenings and the food wine and company was fantastic. They were also very helpful with ideas and views on the vrious things to do and see close by. while it is a few minutes out of town that was balanced by some lovely walks in the countryside around the B&B . would recommended to anyone for value , an experience local food and wines

Room Tip: the apartment is huge, some of the other rooms are a bit small, but if you are just looking for a pl...

Look no further; book your room and dinners at Il Vicario now. This was our favorite hotel experience on our second 3 week trip. You will have a wonderful stay filled with warmth, laughter, enthusiasm and passion! Fulvio and his niece Katia attend to your every need with a smile. They both truly enjoy their guests. The apartment we had was large and absolutely immaculate. Il Vicario is situated in a gorgeous location only a 5 minute drive from San G. and is a perfect location to explore Tuscany. Each morning after a delightful breakfast, Fulvio will be happy to assist you with your day trips. He is prepared with his vast knowledge of the area and beyond, and has many maps, brochures etc. for your use. Make sure you give yourself time to enjoy relaxing in the courtyard, pool and the immediate countryside area for walks. We especially loved the dinners. We sat at a long table with 3 other couples all from different countries. The food was excellent and each course paired with a local wine produced by Fulvio’s friend. We have traveled all over the world and yes, have stayed in fancier 5 star hotels, but, none compare with the wonderful overall experience we had at Il Vicario! We feel we left
Il Vicario with wonderful memories and two very special friends in Fulvio and Katia not once but, twice!.
