Agriturismo Poggiacolle

We have just returned from what we consider the trip of a lifetime! We were fortunate to select Agriturismo Poggiacolle as our home base for our many adventures in Tuscany and Chianti. As we wandered out driving the crazy Italian hwys and countryside, we always were warmly welcomed home to Agriturismo Poggiacolle. We stayed in the 1 bedroom Rosa Apt. It has a great kitchen to sit and enjoy a light dinner for 4 and reminesce about the days adventures or to plan a quick drive to San Gigimano for dinner. The views and the bells give a magical splendour to this special farm holiday. To even top that off, you have the BEST host in Stefano B. who speaks English beautifully and will help you plan a days outing. Not to be missed are the yummy cappuchinos in the breakfastroom with Marcella or to catch up on laundry, Marcella will show you how to use the washing machine. There is nothing lik the Fresh line dryed smell of laundry. Go to the Chianti hill country, take an easy train ride into beautiful Florence, wander the cobblestone streets of San Gi and give yourself memories for a lifetime like WE DID!

Stay here!!! The Poggiacolle farmhouse is absolutely beautiful. This was one of the highlights of our trip in October 2011. When we arrived at the farmhouse we were so amazed by the property’s view of San Gimignano. We stayed at the room next to the office. It is a fully equipped room (kitchen with full size refrigerator and stove). The private bathroom shower is roomy and has an awesome recessed light on the wall. The bed is very comfortable and the room is very quiet and we slept like babies each night. Waking up each morning with views of their vineyards, their olive trees and the absolutely amazing view of San Gimignano was so relaxing. The breakfast is a standard European breakfast (pastries, bread, cold meat, cheese, yogurt, juice, coffee).

The owner, Stefano was a fantastic host. He is so friendly, engaging, and makes you feel so at home the minute you arrive. His personality is one of the main reasons that makes this agriturismo so great. He advised us on where to park in San Gimignano and provided several recommendations to go for dinner and dishes to try. When you leave you feel like you are saying goodbye to a close friend.

San Gimignano is a short walking distance from the farmhouse. One can use the free mountain bikes to ride to San Gimignano though we ended up driving. The infinity pool overlooking San Gimignano is absolutely beautiful. It is dramatically lit at night. It is a great home base to visit hilltowns such as San Gimignano, Voltera, and Sienna. We enjoyed red wine and olive oil and we purchased more to take home with us. We wish we stayed longer than 2 nights. We would definitely stay here again and would HIGHLY recommend the Poggiacolle agriturismo farmhouse to our friends and family .

Room Tip: We stayed at the room next to the office. It was recently refurbished.

We had 3 nights at Poggiacolle this September and it was just perfect. The property is in a beautiful setting well off the main road so it is quiet and rural in what is an increasingly built up part of Tuscany. The views are divine. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable with spotless classy bathrooms. Our young daughters adored the space, the pool and especially the football game!!! Being so close to San Gimignano you can get there early in the morning or later in the evening and enjoy the town without the crowds. It is also so close to Florence (soooo crowded) and Siena (surprisingly uncrowded). Stefano is so friendly and helpful and speaks great English. Marchella, who lives and works at Poggiacolle works her butt off to provide the great breakfasts and tidy rooms, she doesnt speak English and we dont speak Italian but that makes it all the more fun! Couldnt recommend Poggiacolle more highly if you want to stay in the area.
PS Our children adored the San Gimignano 1300 exhibition (as did we) and climbing the tallest tower.
PPS. If visiting Florence prebook a few days ahead as much as possible, or get there nice and early if going at a busy time. Otherwise you will spend all day in queues!

ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT !! We stayed there for 3 nights and this place makes be want to move to San Gimignano...Poggiacolle has a very rustic Tuscan charm to it !! located on a hilltop, it offers fabulous views of San Gimignano. The apartments are fabulous and offer amazing views of the olive trees and wineyards. They also have a walking trail where you can take a 15-20 minute walk among the olive groves and wineyards. The infinity pool is an absolute revelation with amazing views of Tuscan hills and the town. Great place to watch one of the most amazing sunsets ever !! The farmhouse offers mountain bikes and also has a great picnic area for families. They also have free high speed wireless internet in the common area and have a great home cooked breakfast....!!

The owner of farmhouse Stefano is a gentleman; he helped us out figuring the most scenic routes in Siena region, helped us with great food recommendations and overall made us feel like family and made our stay pleasurable. The hotel is not too far from attractions like Montelcino, Montepulciano and Pienza....and 5 minutes from San Gimignano a small medieval town with breathtaking and charming ambiance.

Great location, Charming host, the most beautiful farmhouse apartments....COUNTRY LIVING AT ITS FINEST !!......................ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT !!!

We stayed at Poggiacolle in October 2010 with three teenagers and it was the most relaxing fabulous week of our two-month trip. Even they wound down, which says alot. Great location, excellent host, beautiful farmhouse apartments, we hardly did much other than go shopping locally for food, cook and wander around the farm. Was a good location for our day trips to Florence, Siena, Volterra, Pisa etc. Roads are good - local supermarket is fabulous in San Gimignano near the roundabout - get there early on a Sunday morning though if you want fresh bread as it's family lunch day and it sells out!!!!
